Gosen Proform Tuff 15L

I am looking for a durable, low cost string for high school tennis players who have a low budget and don't want to use kevlar/technora/copoly or polyester strings.

Looking for feedback from players and/or stringers who have used Gosen Proform Tuff 15L. How durable and playable is this string?

TW sells a 660 ft real of this for $20 which appears to be quite the bargain.

It's not that playable, and the durability is eh, so so at best. It's Tournament Nylon. No more, no less. Better option for durability and even playability is Prince Syn Gut Duraflex 15L, if you can still get it, not sure if they stopped making it or not. If you want to go the route of PSG 15L and cannot find it, look up the Gamma Syn Gut Wear Guard 15L. Other decent options are the Toalson 66, a classic and is decently playable, and fairly durable as well. Head's Master 15L is decent, as is the TF Syn Gut.

Mr. thomas martinez (and/or anyone else), if you don't mind, can I ask you a question? In what does "Tournament Nylon" strings differ from the higher quality solid core nylon strings, like PSG? Is it the grade of the nylon?

Also, is the Yonex Tournament 50 considered a "Tournament Nylon". The Yonex Tournament 80 Spin is considered a quality syn gut and I think the 50 is same thing, but without the extra Vectran spin wraps, for texture.

Mr. Match-Point, btw, I think you may want to check out this string, the Tournament 50.

Some players find it OK. It has to be pre-stretched or it loses too much tension. I found it's durability better than PSGD 16g and had to string it tight or it had too much power. Due to the price, I'd recommend trying a couple of sets before ruling it out. I still use it for crosses with poly strings.

Another suggestion for a cheap durable string is Ashway Monogut 17g. It's a poly but one of the softest. This string in 17g will last longer than Proform Tuff. It also loses tension so pre-stretch and string it a little tight.

YEs, it is basically down to the quality of the material in the string itself. The Yonex T-50 is actually on par with say PSG, WSG, and other basic synthetic gut strings.

I really liked this string, IMO it is the best string youll get in that price range. I've given it to many of my customers and all were quite satisfied.

Gosen ProForm Tuff 15l: IMO, one of the BEST values in tennis strings, although I don't stock it. (I don't have the customer base/market for them). They're a tournament nylon style string, much like (if not identical) to Prince Tournament Nylon 15l, it plays crisp, has surprisingly good spin production for it's gauge, and feels much, much like a syn gut. It's more durable than your average (albeit thinner) syn gut. Holds tension pretty good to boot. It's a great value for stringers, and you can pass the savings on to your customers. If you have clients that really DON'T care about the strings in their racquet, but would like a fresh job, this is the string to get.

Well, those are my comments (from another thread). I think it's a great, basic, and cheap string, too! I think it's surprisingly playable for the price, I think (IMO, of course) that it would fit the bill quite well for your situation. Durability is not bad, not the greatest, but most players aren't going to be breaking it quickly. For the players with breakage problems, not many nylon based strings are going to be fitting the bill either way.

It's not that bad of a string. I kind of like it. I'm a string breaker and I get about 5 hours with it.
