It is funny how we compartmentalize people. At work I like to have fun and joke around, yet I am very serious about my job and probably work harder then most of my colleagues.
However, they sometimes take that as I am not smart or that I am lazy. Once they get to know me they realize I am more than the joking around. However, first impressions take some time to fade.

What is a leap day? The ones with extra hours?

That is not a leap day. What you describe is a leap year, set at 366 days every four years (Julian calendar) even before the adjustment done by the Gregorian calendar.
The Gregorian calendar adjustment, made at the end of the XVI century consisted in making an exception for the additional day every four years for the years ended in 00, which were set not to be leap years, except for those divisible by 400.
I.e., 1600 and 2000 were leap years, but 1700, 1800 and 1900 were not leap years; 2100 will not be a leap year. As you see, only the younger people recently born may have the chance to live in a non leap year ended in 00 (2100). Most of us writing here, will not.
About how the Gregorian Calendar was adopted:
When they made the adjustment, they skipped ten days in October 1582. (The following day to October 4, 1582 was October 15, 1582).
Some Orthodox Church countries did not accept the Gregorian calendar until the beginning of the XX century. Russia only did it in Soviet times.
That's why the October revolution actually took place in November for the Gregorian calendar.

Those dates did not actually exist for countries under the Catholic Church domain, so we may say that no Catholic kids were born in those days. as they were "skipped".
However, the implementation of the Gregorian Calendar change was not immediate for non Catholic countries (Protestant, Orthodox, non Christian, etc.)
Therefore, in the places where it was not immediately implemented, there were infants who were effectively born between those dates.
Also, there were people who may have been born with the Julian calendar style, and died with the Gregorian, as notorious Russian people born before 1918.
In Wikipedia articles, you may see their birth dates (and death dates in some cases) expressed in both Julian (named "Old Style" or O.S.) and Gregorian (named "New Style" or N. S.) calendars, as the case of the last Russia czar, Nicholas II, link below:

Additionally, find below the adoption schedule of the Gregorian Calendar, as per a table included in the Wikipedia article I shared the link in my post above. See there that Great Britain and its colonies (including current USA at that time), only adopted the Gregorian Calendar 170 years after, in 1752. So the days "without births" were others (and possibly even more than 10 days) in all those places, depending on the different adoption dates
