If they dump him I suppose he still has a number of head frames he could continue to use. I could see him as the kind of guy that would spend his own money on clothes and gear to look sponsored instead of blacking out his frame to say 'I need a sponsor'.
I just hope he's too privileged to paint it black, can't find a sponsor, and is stuck playing with this paint forever ... or until he fails in the futures (future has been):

If the above statement is true then "some players" are really stupid.
Standing by a player who is "punished for a doping violation" simply means that they believe it was not intentional and that while she is being a good citizen and accepting her penalty they continue to believe in her.
Tomic is not being dumped for admitting he was bored. It's just the "last drop".

I like Bernie. My heart goes out to him. I can't believe that not one person on this forum is able to sympathize/empathize with him. Every single match that he tanks and every single ill-fated press conference he gives to explain how little he cares, both direct at the one and only person who is ruining his tennis career and his life in general - his old man. If anyone on this forum could only imagine what a terrifying person John Tomic in fact is.... Bernie should have more fans. I will always root for him.

I find the people comparing Tomic and Sharapova hilarious. Only tennis fans know Tomic and he has a negative reception, Maria Sharapova is known by everyone not living under a rock, a former number 1 who has won all the majors and is attractive.

I don't like him, but having just watched that post-match conference I do empathize with him. The guy is clearly not happy with where he is in his life, motivation is not there, he does not like what he is doing, and he had the guts to admit it - perhaps not in the best possible form, so I get why some people are outraged.
I find it hard to sympathize/empathize with someone who REFUSES to change something that is completely within his control. What takes guts is actually stepping away from the source of the problem. Continuing down the same path as he (Tomic) seems wont to do is the definition of insanity.

Maybe it's just a matter of the wording of the contract. Head had a clause in their contract their lawyers thought would stand up; Nike didn't.
And do we know that the 'dumping' was effective immediately? Or is it really a 'we won't be renewing him'? What he said was sad - but hardly so egregious to think he would immediately lose his deal. Courier was reading books during changeovers near the end of his career - Wilson didn't boot him.

Yes he can use the racquets that he has leftover from the sponsorship, but It's not paying for frames that is the worry for Tomic. The problem is that he has lost the significant sponsorship dollars from the endorsement. It's another lost income stream that supports his flashy quality of life.
I think he will play with blacked-out frames. Honestly, I wouldn't blame him. Why on earth would you give a sponsor who just dumped you free advertising? I think he played with blacked out racquets in the past, too, during his sponsorship snafu between Yonex and Head a few years ago.
