How are there not more injuries?

With all their bending down way low, stopping instantly... Clijster with her splits o_O.

Awhile ago, I went for my one handed backhand topspin and sprained my ACL in my right knee... And it wasn't anything hardcore either! And they're out there o_O... How do they not get a lot of injuries?

Um... Good fitness and flexibility? These players really put a lot of time and work into those things.

Injuries are a matter of genetics and luck. Some players seem to have a body that can withstand the punishment that pro tennis puts on the body. Other players have genetic weak points that will eventually break over time.

I had to have a wrist surgery, due to torn cartilage. I'm a weekend warrior who doesn't get in a ton of court time, but SNAP, that cartilage was going to go no matter what I did.

We've seen fantastic players like Guga, Haas, Rafter, etc. etc. all have injuries that really hurt their performance in the long run. Are these guys less fit? I'd say they were all just prone to a specific injury.

Agassi has had a few close brushes over the years with his wrist. Aside from that, he has always said the key is playing as well as he does at his age is "getting lucky by being healthy." Agassi works like a dog, but even he accepts that you can't train being healthy.

And yes, every player (worth a damn) goes through extensive training in flexibility and strength to increase the odds that they won't get normal wear and tear injuries.

When its warm I play like every other day sometimes a few days straight. I just dont get how you can get injured. I run for all my shots. And yeah I play 2-4 hours at a time.

Then again.. I have never injured myself in my whole life. Never even went to the hospital. Maybe it is genetics... im 19

Doesn't that explain it? He's only 19. Wait until he's 39.

Hah, this is hillarious. I played today after being sick for 3 days and I was feeling weak. My first serve return i do a jump return and twist my ankle when I fell. The first thing i thought of was this stupid post!

Oh yeah, I still kept playing with a mild limp. nothing serious.
