How do you wash your hat?

I just got a new white Lacoste hat and i'm wanting to wash it before i start wearing it. Is it ok if i just throw it in the washer and hang dry?

thanks in advance

It will shrink. I just take a slightly wet towel, wet it down, let it dry overnight, and then it is ready for use.

I've always just thrown mine in the washer & dryer. I like mine to look a bit worn, though.

well that link just says to just throw it in the washer.

My hat says 100% cotton.

So its alright to just throw it in the washer and hang dry?

I never wash anything without first posting at least three threads on a forum to get other's detailed advice :/

i just don't want to put a brand new hat in the washer and next thing you know...its can even fit me lol

I used to be this way with hats. If you're tentative, hand wash it in semi-cold water in the sink, then let it air-dry.

Eventually you're going to be tired after a long day/tennis match, and you're going to get a whiff of that hat. You're going to say 'Sheesh, this STINKS!!', and launch that sucker into the laundry. You eventually won't care about something happening in the washer/dryer. If it's adjustable, you can always re-adjust it after it gets out of the dryer. For reference, I've washed 30 or so lids (baseball caps) in the washer and then thrown them in the dryer. Haven't had a problem yet. And that's washing them dozens of times each.

Hi,

I've always washed my Lacoste hats in the washer. I have a front loader and iI guess it is supposed to be gentler on fabrics. I have the Roddick Lacoste mesh and did not encounter any problems with shrinkage. I've washed it 6 times already.
This is what I do:
1. Wash with light colors only. COLD wash!
2. Put the hat inside Delicate Wash Bag- so it gets that extra protection! Very important as I never wash my hats without it!!
3. Do not overload wash as it could compress the bill and may be flattened.
4. When done, hang to dry. DO NOT PUT IN DRYER!!! It will shrink and deform your hat.

Hope this helps!

I wash mine once every 2 weeks. Make sure you put it in the cold/delicates cycle. If you live in a house with a balcony, just hang it out to dry on a clothesline. I put one of mine in a dryer once and the elastic/adjustable flap on the backside shrunk.

Hand wash them in the sink with a little bit of detergent. Let it soak for 10 minutes, then swirl it around a bit. Give it a few squeezes and then rinse it off with fresh water. Let it dry and voila, a clean hat.

Machine wash, air dry or tumble dry low.

Tell you the truth. I have many clothes with tags saying "hand wash, lay flat to dry", I put them in washer and tumble dry with high heat, nothing happen. I also have many clothes with tags saying "machine wash, tumble dry", but when I follow the direction, they shrink!

So my suggestion is, make sure you can still get another hat of the same model, and try all the methods to have fun. Good luck.

That's probably what will happen if you throw it in the washer and dryer. That's happened to me before. I had to throw out a brand new hat because it shrunk so much I couldn't wear it anymore. :-(

I have a Lacoste hat, plain white with croc on front. It got dirty, i (or my mom....) just threw it in the washer and dryer. Probably shrunk like 5%...

So i would say you will be fine, but don't blame it on me if yours shrinks a lot. :)

I have to throw in the vote for the dishwasher on the top rack. Put a little bit of laundry pre treatment on that hat and run the dishwasher. Works great.

It really depends on the fabric. I hand wash most of my tennis caps. I have seen some device that maintains the shape of your hat if you machine wash. Best to use cold water and hand wash.
