One interesting thing is that Nadal and Federer both retired or will retire because of injuries. If not for injuries I think they would have played longer. As long as Novak avoids injuries I think he will play for several more years. Even after he does decline and he is no longer the best player like he currently is he will still be one of the best players and he will still have a good shot at winning Wimbledon and the AO, with a puncher's chance at the USO and FO. Unlike now when he captures 3 GS a year after he declines more I think he will still win 1 GS a year for a 1 or 2.
Even then i think his last competitive year will be 2026 may be - maximum.

Once Novak is 38, he will have to skip the French open in order to aim for Wimbledon.

Today he is the champ on clay but 2 years from now things will be different.

I can realistically see 2 more Wimbledon and 2 more Aus Opens. Not sure about US Open because its held later in the season and he's getting older.

I'll go with 3 and i mean regardless of whether he manages to secure CYGS this year by winning all 4 or not...this is relatively large span, so winning 3 out of 7 (also why the heck is that 7 and not 6? LOL) is realistic by Novak's standards!

Federer didn't got any GS between 2012 WO and 2016, almost 5 years. He just waited until the opportunities came. Djokovic may have top condition for the next 1 year and max 2 years. After that, all he needs to do is wait, conserve his body and do daily training. The opportunity will come. It's very likely he will have 26 GS and more, maybe 30 max. It's hard to predict, also depends on competition.

I don't understand the pessimism again. Nolefams, are you high on your own hype?

Nole is the hard court GOAT. He has much better chance to win USOpen than a Roland Garros.

This. When Fed won the 2018 AO nobody thought that was going to be his last. When Nadal won RG last year nobody thought he wouldn't win at least one of the next few Slams. At this age, everything can change very quickly
But unlike Djokovic, Nadal and Federer showed signs of vulnerability more often than not in slams at their advanced age and just happened to find their mojo for a slam or two sporadically. From what I've seen so far Djokovic remains locked on at all four slams. Whenever you think you've had him he finds a new gear.

II don't know who can stop him.

I'm quite sure 2 years ago I have read just the same comments about this year.

I feel 38 is the limit, he will have to select between CC season and Grass Season at 38, he cannot aim for all 4 slams at that age I think so.

That having said, you are right, we thought Novak would cut down schedule at 35 and skip slams but he seems to have won his worst slam at 36, so who knows what his limits are, only time will tell.

He always has been very good in getting into grass form without grass-court preparation, so IMO the 3 weeks between RG and Wimbledon will always work for him as long as he doesn't have a real injury after RG. Just in terms of exhaustion he should be fine. And now he has shown that he can also win RG without many clay matches before, so he can actually win both Slams without overplaying.

I never thought he would skip SLAMS, but he may need to skip what others call "preparation tournaments". And those others often NEED them, so they may sacrifice the whole season on a certain surface that way. But not so Djokovic. In the past year (unfortunately) he had it easy to schedule though. He just played where he was allowed to in terms of big tournaments. However, I think he will easily manage it in the next few years as well.

The grass tournaments like Halle/Queens surely have lost its relevance in last decade since the reigning champion doesn't even play them and can win the main tournament without any practice, makes those tournaments look irrelevant.

Because he is also making history of most weeks being no. 1.

This Wimbledon will be his first GS as the outright record holder, so it's unknown territory. Also, he didn't reveal much about his ultimate goal beyond surpassing Roger and Rafa, so who knows where his motivation will be in 7-8 months. I voted 5/7. As long as Djokovic is in the draw and healthy, the idea of a young player winning either AO or Wimbledon will always be extremely cringe inducing and unrealistic. I just can't (and don't want to) see it after all these years.

And just a reminder that Djoker is 11-2 in GS finals since he turned 30, so comparing him to Fedal doesn't seem to be the right way to go about this.

How on earth would he know that? And why on earth would he care? I'm confident that he does not know of it and that if it were brought to his attention, he would laugh and not take the view seriously.

He will continue his domination beating the next atg contender, his son Stefan Djokovic, irking jelena. But his grandson's emergence on the tour could be a challenge.:p

They didn't make 36 year olds like they did with Novak beating up on 20 year olds. Kuerten, Agassi, fed, nadal all had back, foot or some other issues.
More like they aren't making <36 year olds like they used to.
