Confusing breaking with extended records. Federer established a new record in July 2009 and it's held for 6 years.

I think as of now, Federer has a better chance to reach 18 than Novak and Rafa.

I actually agree, though I think Roger's chances of getting #18 are about 3%, if that. Nadal has less chance than that and Djokovic-- forget it. He's not winning 8 slams when he's 29 next year. And yes... (sigh)... I know the inevitable rejoinder: Agassi won 5 slams when he was over 28! The answer to this is that Djoker will almost certainly not be playing guys like Schüttler, Clément or Medvedev in his major finals. When Andre had to play Pete after 28 in a slam, he always lost, no matter what round.

eh...look around. We're not far from Djoker getting a steady diet of Nishikori's and Raonic's in major finals

Maybe. At the moment, all of Novak's bigger threats are actually older than him, so it is more likely that they will fall down. But you never know when some of the youngsters can explode.

Not to bash your point, but Andre actually beat Pete in the 2000 Australian Open semifinals at the age of 29.

doubt it. If one of them was going to be an all time great there would have been many indications by now in their games and performances. Nishikori/Raonic/Dimitrov aren't exactly young.

Kyrgios/Zverev/Rublev give me some hope but Kyrgios has his issues and lack of athleticism and the other two are quite far away. Djoker is probably semi-retired or gone by the time they are at their serious peak. Unless Kyrgios sorts out his issues fast and becomes a factor this year or next. In any case none of them gives me a young Fed/Safin type feel besides maybe Rublev and he just turned 18.

Well, if youngsters stay the same or improve by a small margin, it could be another great year for Djokovic in 2016 maybe...

18. ?

Well, I'm not sure how meaningful these records are:

1. Pre-Open era: when amateur slams and pro majors co-existed. Rosewall still hold ~24 major record, right?
2. If you really want to count slam only, it's Roy Emerson's 12 slams was record until Sampras broke it in like 30+ years?

Laver's won something like 17-18 majors, right?

It's better to compare slam records in similar era only.

Borg and Sampras record belong to the era of 1970s-1990s.

Federer's slam and #1 records are the inaugural ones in modern base line era on homogeneous surfaces started around 2003....

Laver's 2nd calendar slam, Sampras' 6 year end #1 are the open era records unbroken yet.
Nadal's 9+ French open probably immortal.
