What would be cool is if there is a great clay courter developing right now who is about 17 who will explode onto the tour in the next year or so and be the next sort of at least Kuerten-esque clay talent. Imagine if Nadal was also able to conquer him before retiring.

Ha ha it's getting scary. I can't believe I'm saying this but he may actually win it until he retires. The sky is the limit, so it seems!
Seriously, it's gonna get tough around 30. He may not always have as favorable a 1st week draw as he had this year.
I honestly believe he'll win 1 more max. Prove me wrong Rafa!

I would guess 3 or 4. All the up and comers are totally ****** clay courters. Who in the world believes Raonic for instance will ever win Roland Garros. Other than Djokovic who will probably win 1 max there is no threats for a long time, even as he ages.

Too bad the new generation is easily the biggest collection of scrubs I have ever witnessed. The biggest "hopes" are serve only Raonic and weaponless Nishikori who gets injured every 5 minutes.

Then you are on crack. I dont even like Nadal and I still laugh at that.

As great as Nadal is, there will come a day when it will be all over. He's not going to be French Open champion forever. He will be 29 by the time of the next French Open final, having won his first French Open at age 19.

Of course that day will come, but there is no way in hell he is going to never win the French Open again from 2016 onwards are something. There are no decent clay courters coming up at all. Raonic, Dmitrov, Nishikori, etc... are finally showing some promise but none are any good on clay. Like I said imagine Raonic winning Roland Garros ever, ROTFL!!! Wimbledon oR U.S Open maybe but sure as hell not RG. Dmitrov is the only one with any clay aptitude at all. Djokovic is as old as he is, and Nadal owns him at RG. Sorry but him winning 1 max given the state of the rest of the field in the near future is a pure fantasy.

Federer was still winning Wimbledon at 31 and is still a contender to win Wimbledon at 33 too btw, and Nadal on clay >> Federer on grass. Given that and the emerging non existent crop of clay courters I could easily see him being atleast a major threat to win Roland Garros until atleast 33.

That would be Monumental. :)

If Nadal plays till 33 that 5 more years and he can get to 20 slams if he plays til 33 in 5 years he just needs 4 1 slam years and 1 2 slam year.

Forget the fact that Nadal's begun to struggle with nobodies on clay.

Nadal struggled with nobodies at Wimbledon even when he reached 5 straight finals from 2006-2011. Many nobodies, not just once in a blue moon like Nadal might on clay today.

He struggled with nobodies due to the fact that the hardest transitioning surfaces are clay and grass. It takes time to adjust to Grass after bloody winning 5 clay touranments. Nobdoy wins or goes deep all clay season Except Nadal.

One funny thing is some of the same people who are predicting Nadal to win only 1 or 2 more French Opens, or even more laughably never another; are the exact same ones saying Novak might never win a French. One would think if you are predicting Nadal to win few more French Opens, would atleast be predicting Novak to win multiple RG titles and take over, but no. So in the fantasy world of these people who is going to win the Roland Garros titles over the next 4-5 years before the crop of players we know nothing about emerges. Milos Raonic? Kei Nishikori? Alex Dolgopolov?

I think if he plans his clay court season better, skip one or two of the the masters events, and focus in staying healthy for the French as he gets older, that'll really help him get enough on clay alone to pass Federer.

Players like Ferrer, Federer are still doing enormously well in tournaments. Making deep runs at Slams. Nadal could play at a high level up to 33 or so.

Yes mediocre talent but hard working Ferrer would have won the last 3 French Opens if Nadal and Djokovic (and Federer in 2011) didn't exist probably. Into his 30s. Even more a grinder than Nadal, with literally no weapon or overpowering shot in his game at all.

I think he currently has slightly more desire to win Australian Open and maybe Wimbledon....

I agree with this, and would even possibly say more desire to win Wimbledon again, once more. Even though he knows he would have 2 slams at each with one more Ausi Open, he has frequently said that Wimbledon is the slam he loves and would like to win the most.

He will remain hot favourite for the next two years on his own terms.

After that, it really all depends on the luck of the draw and the quality of the playing field. David Ferrer at 30+ years is looking fighting fit so with proper management I can see Rafa going for a while yet.

That being said, if some young gun experiences an unexpected meteoric rise to the top, it'll throw a spanner into the works.

I think he wants to win more RG the most actually. Which is the way it should be imo.

Seeing the level of Fed and Ferrer, no reason why Rafa wouldn't be able to be a favourite for RG well into his 30s, except of course, injuries. Going by what he's said, he will keep playing as long as he feels he can compete at the highest level (that is, win the biggest tournaments), so the question is more for how long he will keep playing.

Now, of course, how many RG he can win is not the same as how many he will win, and indeed winning 1 more and having 10 would be just fantastic. More of an accomplishment probably than winning another AO or Wimbledon, and more reachable too.

If he is not injured 3 for sure. Even though I put 2 because I think he might be....

He is an animal. Destroyed Ferrer who admitted to quiting and made Novak throw up. Sheer domination.

3 may be a bit much IMO... I will go with possibly 1, with 2 more at the very most.
