How rare or frequent: the '89 Women's Open QF

Navratilova (2) played Maleeva (7),Garrison (5) played Evert (4), Sabatini (3) played Sanchez (6) Graf (1) played Sukova (8) All eight of the top eight seeds reached their seeding. No room at the inn for anyone else whether it was #9,12, or an unseeded player.

At the US Open (you forgot to specify which tournament) it seems to be very rare indeed.

I went back to 1968 and it only happened that one time - the closest was in 85 - the top 7 seeds made it to the QF and the only seed to not make the QF was Manuela Maleeva (the 8th seed that year) who was beaten by Graf who then made it to the semis.
