How to find matches?

Just started trying to get back into tennis (Which I've been saying in nearly every post I've made since I started posting again yesterday... maybe in a few days I'll stop advertising how much of a noob I am) and I was curious -- how do you guys find people to play with in your area? I know there's a few USTA leagues at the YMCA by my house, but darn it if I don't want to have to pay $90 for the privilege of finding someone to hit with while I get my sea legs back.

There are several websites that are kinda like dating websites, but for tennis players looking for opponents.

You could also ask at some tennis specialty stores if they know of places were people play "pick up" matches around Detroit.

I haven't used it, myself, so this isn't an endorsement, but tennisopolis might be worth a shot, or give craigslist a look.

Yes there are matchmaker websites; I've found matches on USTA. Find them at my club via bulletin board. But the old fashion show up at the court, practice serving & looks sad always gets a match. Good luck.
