How to reduce grip

I have a Wilson K Factor KSix-One Tour 90 Racquet 4 5/8 grip. I would like to reduce the size of the grip to 4 1/2. Can this be done? Would I remove the leather grip and try to sand it? Any help would be appreciated. Is the material wood in that area or some type of composite material?

The material under the grip is a composite material. You could certainly remove the grip and sand it. I would just take it slow and take measurements before you start and then every so often as you go. It's not that tough to do as long as you are patient. On the other hand you could send it to **** and they could do a custom handle that is smaller but I think it's about $100 for that.

Making a grip smaller is a very hard thing to do. I wouldnt try to sand it, since you can end up with a funny grip shape instead (experience talking here, haha). The best thing to do IMHO, is trade your current racquet for a smaller grip size. You can also try to remove the original leather grip and play with an overgrip instead, but that might be not as comfortable, specially for a raquet as the k 90.

I had success with such a feat.

Get very fine grit sand paper...

Then for the next 2hours or so...

Very carefully sand down the grip...

Counting how many times you sand on each side...

Take breaks often..

You make mistakes when losing patience..

Thats why I say two hours or so...

And if/when you mess up...

Get it a new grip pallet installed

LF reducer grip will do the job since you are only going down a small fraction of an inch. <$5.00 I did this with my first TF which was 3/8; I now use 1/4 w/overgrip. Worked like a charm.

For myself I had a 4 5/8 and reduced it to somewhere between 4 1/2 and 4 3/8 just by taking off the over grip and grip and instead of synthetic grip I put on two levels of hockey tape and an over grip. It works just that the buttcap is huge.

What is LF reducer? where do you get it?

Laserfibre -- laserfibrestore.com It is a replacement grip that is specifically designed to reduce grip size. It still provides cushion, unlike some other options. For $5.00 it is inexpensive to see if you like it.

How heavy is it?

Is it very thin then?

It's a grip -- I have never weighed one. Seems like a normal synthetic grip in terms of weight and cushioning. They sew it in a different way that keeps it thin but still maintains cushioning. Nothing like the **** grips that reduce, but have zero cushioning (but those are designed for use over-grips and are $20.00). The LF's feel good with or without an over-grip and do reduce size by 1/8 to 1/4 inch (depending on how tight you wrap it) compared to my regular OEM grips.

I still maintain sanding works as long as you are patient. I use a dremmel with the racquet mounted in a vice. Use the guide on the dremmel at a relatively slow speed and take your time. I have done this with probably 10 different sticks and it works great. Very minimal weight loss and the desired effect achieved.

Why not call your local pro shop to see if they can do it for you professionally.

I had the fortune to find a local shop that shaved the 5/8 down 2 sizes for $10.00. And they did a great job.

I got three regular Laserfibre grips in December. They were not the reduced grips mentioned earlier, but even the regular grips reduced my grip size some which is why I bought them. So far, I'm very happy with them.

I wonder, if shaving down your grip 1 size affects the racquet balance in anyway significant and if you should use some lead tape to bring it back to equilibrium?
