How to return wallet?

I found a wallet on campus today with about $150 and a bunch of credit/debit cards.

There's also a driver's license and insurance information in it, so I'm pretty sure the owner dropped it just very recently.

I'm currently studying in the library at my school, and I'm hoping that someone walks by asking about a wallet.

This might not happen though, so how can I make sure that the wallet is returned to him with everything intact? I'm a bit of a cynic so I'd rather not leave it up to someone else.

Google the person's name and find out their contact info.

You can reverse-lookup the phone number based on the address on the driver's license. Even if it's out-of-state, someone at that residence probably knows how to get a hold of that person.

If you think they're a student, is there a student directory you can look them up in?

I'll try this, thanks! I tried to stalk them on Facebook, but couldn't find anything. I'm pretty sure they're a student, but as far as I know, my school doesn't have a student directory that's available to the public.

Yeah, turning it in is the best way.

There is a scam regarding lost wallets. Someone steals your wallet. They call you and tell you they have it. They arrange a time to come by and give it to you.

And then they never show up. That is because they are out buying things with the credit cards you didn't cancel because you were cooling your heels waiting for them.

If you give it to the police or campus security, then they will know the wallet is in safe hands.

When I was a bartender a lifetime ago, I found a wallet on the floor containing over $100.00. I put it up on the top shelf behind the bar, and about an hour later the owner came asking if anyone had turned it in.

After he identified himself, I handed him the wallet. He looked inside, counted the money, then walked away without so much as a thank you.
