How Z's career would have panned out had he won USO against theim in straight?

Now the question is would we care if he wins one at say 33 when his draw falls completely. I won't.

Masters in 2017. Couldn't hack his way to a slam by now

Being a Z fan I find it frustrating to see him losing so many close matches in slams and still sitting on zero slams. I believe he would have won 6-7 slams already had he won the USO final against Theim. How differently his career would have shaped up had he won the USO?
Well, he won the Olympics in 2021 and yet that didn't lead to him continuing winning big. And he often said, before and after he won it, that the Olympics are the biggest title, bigger than a Slam. So it wouldn't make much mental difference if he won US Open 2020.

On the contrary, in interviews after his gold medal Zverev for some while acted like someone who has done everything he ever wanted to achieve. Apparently for him winning big means just being happy without (immediate) need for a backup. So I don't think there would be an effect of the kind you suggest. Not at all.

Zverev is the biggest underperformer in an underperforming generation. The real Berdych II.

I am a sworn #ABZ, but I would lie if I said I didn't feel sorry for that guy. That unbelievable USO choke, and then the RG fall... Yikes.

If Zverev had won USO 2020, he would have one Major.

Here is why:

Zverev has 0 Major titles.
Us Open 2020 was a Major tournament.

0+1=1

Therefore we can say that if Zverev had won the 2020 US Open final against Thiem, he would have one (1) major title to his name.

Why though?
Djokovic was still around really and the field would probably be able to upest him from time to time. We also have to remember he had that horrible at RG 22 too.

Then again if Zverev won in straights that would probably make him a better player than he is in real life and he may be a bit more confident too.

He loses in Slams because of the following:

- Has technique issues with his toss and this crops up in big moments of big matches. It is not reliable enough for him to win 7 Bestof5 matches in a row especially against elite players in the 2nd week of a Slam. Hasn’t improved this although it has been a problem from the start and if anything has regressed in some years.
- Tendency to play passively and wait for errors even though he has the game to play more aggressively. Usually he ends up playing many long 5-set matches in the first week of Slams which adds to fatigue in the 2nd week. Also costs him against more aggressive better players in the last 2-3 rounds of Slams.

Would winning a few more points in the 2020 USO have changed these issues? I don’t think so.

He didn't lose to Theim in USO due to technical issues ffs.
