Would Djokovic have definitely won the USO last year if he wasn't disqualified?

No. It would have been a weak slam, and Nole only wins strong slams.

The title of this thread is puzzling. What sort of person thinks anyone can be a "definite" to win a tournament?? Did we not see an example of how silly a notion that is with the Miami result?

I know the USO was a long time ago now lol. But do you think he would have definitely won that slam if he wasn't disqualified? He was already struggling against Carreno Busta in the first set of that match, I wonder if Djokovic would have won that and then won all remaining matches.
Unfortunately, Novak has the slimmest imaginary record among big3, so - no. He would lose.
So far, Nadal is strongest on "woulda" category. For example, if Nadal played that USO, he would win it 1000%. Don't believe me? Ask his fandom here.

I think he would if he got past Busta. He was definitely mad at himself for missing the opportunity, especially after watching that terrible final.

I'm a Djokovic fan and I say no. Djokovic doesn't play his best tennis at the U.S. Open for some reason. He has had some very inexplicable losses in the latter stages. It's almost like Cincy: he gets to the very end and just loses.

Come through and slay, and say it louder for the rest of the Ultronians.

What are the inexplicable losses? The only inexplicable losses I see are 1 to Murray and 1 to Nishikori. The others to Federer, Nadal and Wawrinka are hardly inexplicable.

The truth is, what does it matter? What has happened, has happened and we can not change it. All he needs to do is to carry on winning.

Definitely is a strong word, obviously, but with the quality shown by everyone else, I certainly wouldn't've been surprised. I would say likely, even 70% chance, but not a definite. Zverev or Thiem would've stood a chance (even with the poor quality final, there's still a chance Nole plays worse than that or they play better against him - rising to the challenge.)

Yes.

He can beat anyone outside big 3 even with a stomach injury. We are talking about a healthy Djokovic. He finds a way to win.

Yes.

Oh I know nothing is for certain in tennis and all that, but Djoker always ups his game in the later rounds. There is no way he would’ve lost to Busta and he would’ve definitely upped his level by the final.

Also, Djoker’s USO upsets in the past have come about largely due to the fact (imo) that it is the last major at the end of a busy season. USO 2020 was not like that. He’d have won.

Should just put Djokovic in the final and let everyone else play through to meet him. Save a lot of time and effort for everyone.

Most likely. Novak seems, lately, to start out slowly in slams and get better by the end of the slam. IMO, the should not have defaulted him for the incident, but deprive him of any prize money won instead.
