who does not own a smart phone these days? Due to my work and availability to the company, the company purchased the Iphone for me. They even take care of my monthly phone bill for me because of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). In other words, I got reimbursed for both the phone and the phone bill, a stipend of $110/month and a upfront $700 USD. When I purchased the Iphone, I paid with the $700 and the rest come from the $110/month stipend.

Most people who work in technology get a similar deal like mine.

1. Is there an Android version of the app available?
2. Can I connect the iWatch to my Android phone?

Pressureless?

i'm getting a case of Diadem pressureless next month...

i was just afraid that those balls are nothing like the match day balls and i won't get the same type of practice. In the past i play practice sets with pressureless balls and i go and play matches with US open balls and it played so different that it took me a Set to get used to the new balls

You already need an iPhone to use the app. So that being $1000 and the ball machine being $1600, the Spinfire is starting to look like a steal; especially, since the Spinfire is known to last twice as long as an iPhone/Proton (aimed at the person who considers both of these purchases as temporary).
I have an Android phone. I purchased a used iPhone 6S for use as a remote for $89. Works perfectly well and is smaller than some newer phones. Put a protective case on and put it in my pocket. Also, less to worry about than if your regular phone.

i purchased an airpod.. that works perfectly... i have the proton app on it's own on the bottom taskbar.
so light you can't feel it in your pockets... approx. the same weight as 2 tennis balls.

Did you run out of your Costco Penns?

yea.. costco is all sold out... but i still have a case stored in the garage...
i didn't want to hoard all the balls when they were $30 case...

the batch i'm using now is going 2 months still have a fair amount of felt and bounce..

the Diadem is a little pricey.. might go Triniti Club at $60 a case.

Side note: Had @BobbyR thought of this none of his balls would have been puked out the top by his disgruntled Proton’s hopper. He thought he overfilled his Proton but it was actually the AI letting him know of its displeasure in his not asking first. Remember Bobby! You must ask and receive permission before you insert your balls!

Since I started saying pretty please Proton and taught my son to do the same when inserting our balls everything miraculously kept happening the same way as before. This NostradamusAI is faulty it seems. She/He/They have a lot to answer for!

The main news this month is a significant app update based on some very useful user feedback from our first pre-order batch. Notable changes include:

  • Fewer menu layers so you can get practicing faster
  • 2-3x faster program uploads
  • more guidance to navigate the app (it wasn’t obvious that you have to upload a program before you can run it)
  • easier access to calibration (in the main menu)
This will hopefully be our last beta release in TestFlight and then we will push it live to the App Store and get our Android version going. If you’re curious, first download TestFlight and then get the app at https://testflight.apple.com/join/xDysMGY1 .
I can't locate the calibration option on the main menu with the latest firmware. How can I access it?

i plan on filling this machine when i get it with Premium balls. Which ones should i get ?? Wilson US open balls, Dunlop ATP tour balls or Penn ATP tour balls ?
Premium balls are an expensive option but having recently tried all 3 of your suggestions in regular play (except Penn Tour, not ATP) I'd go with the US Opens for durability - they lost their fuzz long before they went dead.

I thought Dunlop had the most fuzz and most durability ??

For normal play, the Penns and Dunlops were fine for a few sets. For a ball machine ... I don't know how long any regular ball's fuzz would last, really. I just think the US Opens have the best chance of keeping their bounce if you're not planning to use pressureless balls.

Not selling you anything. In fact, if I were starting over I'd try a 72-ball box of Wilson Triniti Club tennis balls.

Those Triniti club balls play nothing like the US open balls. and i won't get a good practice. I need to simulate the Real match situation as much as possible

you're overthinking it
the AI modules in Proton will ensure that any ball will play like USO ball.
even if you take away an old dead ball that used to be the favorite toy of your dog. Just leave it to Proton AI

I have tried the Triniti's and feel they are way over-hyped. I don't like that they don't last anywhere near how long pressureless balls like the SetPoint Pulp or the Tretorn Micro X last. I can use either of those for 18-24 months playing a few times a week. You keep having to replace the Triniti's at least every few months if not earlier and it ends up costing a small fortune. Why bother?

just broke the 10K+ balls fired...

Congrats. Be sure to update us on a regular basis on how many balls you fired, lol.

So only 240K more until your warranty runs out. I've put more than 1M balls through my Spinfire Pro 2 already and there was no balls fired limit on their 2-year warranty. There isn't on their 4 year either.

I asked Proton if I could get an extended warranty, like I'd even pay for it, but they said no. That and the warranty being limited by balls shot, which no ball machine has, says a lot. Fingers crossed that it lasts but then we got in on the first early birdie deal at $995 so it won't be as bad as having paid full retail.

1M balls is a LOT !!!

How long do you own your Spinfire Pro 2 ?

I thought that 250K balls with Proton is plenty to last you about 5 years (10 hoppers/week=1000x52weeks= 52000/yr x 4 = 208000 balls fired ...

Add to that any play with "real" humans and it is a lot of balls to hit for any recreational player, no !?

Oh well. He seemed dead set against pressureless balls ... figured it would make sense to replace Trinitis every few months instead of US Opens every week.

I have had it over 7 years now. Here's how I got to 1M balls:

Hopper capacity: 200 balls (new Spinfire Pro 2 v2 model I see is 150 balls as the machine is more compact now)
Interval between balls: 4 sec = 15 balls min
200 balls/15 balls min = 13.3 min
Picking up balls if about 5 min. My son helps me (but now that he has his own Proton that isn't happening, lol)
13.3 min hitting + 5 min picking up = 18.3 min. Let's round up to 20 min
200 balls every 20 min = 600 balls/hr
I usually hit 1.5+ hrs/session so 900 balls/session 4x/week (court is across the road and I hit in the morning before work)
4x/week x 900 balls/session = 3,600 balls/week
48 weeks/year (I do go on vacay!) x 3,600 balls/week = 172,800 balls/year
1,000,000 balls/172,800 balls per year = 5.8 years

Since I've owned my Spinfire Pro 2 for 7 years with my frequency of practicing with the machine it was easy to hit that 1M mark. I should ask Spinfire for my gold pin! I know a guy that uses his ball machine every day.

In case anyone is wondering and I have mentioned this before, I use the SetPoint Pulp pressureless that Spinfire USA sells. I replace them every 2 years so they are super good value compared to regular balls which would cost a fortune to keep replacing. I tried cheap ones like gamma in the beginning but they were that real feeling and fell apart after a few months.

i'm averaging 5K balls a month.. x 9 months.. 3 months for Cold and rainy weather in Norcal.
45K balls per year...
it'll take me approx 5.5yrs to get to 250K..
just under 20yrs for 1M... :-D

Couldn’t you buy an extended warranty through a third party vendor like Square Trade? I would think they’d potentially have a policy.

dropped the golden stirring peg into the machine today and can confirm that it is a PITA to retrieve. shook the machine upside down vigorously for 5 minutes before it came out.

That's a great idea. I didn't even think of it but I almost never buy one. However, beyond calling for support once, which turned out to be a loose wire on a circuit board connector which all I had to do was push in, I haven't had a single issue with it.

Welcome to the club. Same thing happened to my son and I spend about the same amount of time trying. I told my son if he does it again he's going to try to get it out himself. Seems like a very poor design that you have to install it and uninstall that rod each time and that it's so hard to get anything out of the Proton. We had a ball stuck too already and that was no walk in the park either to get out either. With the Spinfire I just reach in the front if I need to get anything out of the machine.

Funny, the developer of Proton used work for Apple. He must have taken a leaf out of their book as Apple also makes it almost impossible to get inside their inside their iPhones.

hopefully the software updates won't be slowing down the CPU and won't be damaging the battery life, off course done with pure intentions in order to protect consumers

What would some of the best program or feeding patters we can programm into the machine for 4.5 level player ? I am sure you guys already found some great patterns of ball feed to practice with. I think i will start programming my Iphone now

znok

New User
The old analog machine at my club has a rotating feed wheel that is split up into four tennis ball sized quadrants, with one quadrant permanently boxed up and the opposite quadrant blocked by a little removable bar,

In normal play, this means that two balls are delivered per rotation of the feed wheel,
which is good for baseline strokes. By removing the little bar however, three balls are delivered in rapid succession (followed by a small pause), which is excellent for practicing volleys.

Do modern machines have a similar feature?

I am "hearing' some rumors that there is a very serious shortage of semiconductor chips developing.

I hope this will not cause further delay in production and shipment of this machine ...

it's been in place since Q4 2020 at least
now we see the effects, as the 'safety' stocks get exhausted at manufacturers of final goods

Received the remaining Protons last week. The people from the local boys and girls club picked up those Protons from my house, along with a five cases of new tennis balls. They texted me this morning that the kids love them.

That really makes my day.

Can this proton do sequential feeding ? like i want to practice hitting approach shot to the corner and coming in and volleying to the opposite corner. Can it feed me short low ball then feed me the volley after ?? Can it do such specific sequences ?
