I don't buy Djokovicurray's elbow injury excuse

They almost certainly have elbow issues, but whether they're enough to render them incapable of playing to a high level this week is another matter.. possibly, maybe not.. who knows..

The likely scenario is their injuries popped up at the perfect time, so they chose to take a break - mentally if nothing else, and used their elbows as a legit excuse (without technically lying).

I think both players miss each other, and the chase.

Djokovic was all about the FO hunt, and currently in ranking limbo with no one near him, and probably won't perk up until either Stan/Federer say hello, or Murray loses a couple thousand.

Murray was all about the Djokovic hunt, and since he achieved that, he's in ranking limbo with no one near him, and probably won't perk up until Novak says hello or he loses a couple thousand.

They both have the 'what now' look about them.. and need to channel their inner Roger - finding something new to aim at.

You never know.. the old maestro may just provide the tonic for their ailments..

manny lost matches before he got caught and lost some after he got caught .It s a little more complex than that with him.He s freacking 38 years old so he is way past his prime ,and got robbed of some matches. What he s lost is his killer instinct that he had before 2012.Which is understandable,it s hard to be a Christian and have a killer instinct.I don t know which winnable matches manny lost...marquez 4 he was bashing the guy s head in, got careless and after 4 fights marquez on PED managed to hit him with a fluke punch to KO him...bradley 1 was one of the biggest robberies in boxing...against mayweather he was injured and had everything stacked against him, plus the fight was way closer that media would like you to belive(if you know anything about boxing)..and those are the loses.I don t realy think he s comparable to djokovic .Pacquaio just got older and became a smarter boxer .

The scandal for Manny was revealed around the time he got screwed by Timothy Bradley in their first match. Horrible judge decision. By the time he barely beat Juan Manuel in November 2011 there were rumors already surfacing. When he got KO'd by Juan Manuel that was during the time he started this born again Christian stuff. Since then he's beaten scrubs but lost to Floyd. He's obviously of what he used to be. I'm simply pointing out that when he was at his best mental edge he was destroying Oscar. Made Hatton go into retirement. Clottey Win. Cotto win. Margarito win.

Love how people think the petty squabbles they have here about players actually affect the players themselves.

Well, if you don't think Murray is injured why do you suppose he's not playing at the moment? o_O

Lack of confidence, perhaps, after an awful loss to Pospisil and the thumping by Mischa Zverev in AO?
I dont know, but looks a cheap excuse to me. However, I have to accept the fact he was training in Miami, and probably he realised there he was not 100% to compete and he does not want another drubbing from a NN player

Resting up for Clay.
Both have a Ton of points to defend.

Djokovic's plan is to defend his 2016 points by losing all 1000 of them from last year's Miami event?

Also, why should the Djoker need to rest now? He played five matches in Qatar, only two at the AO, three in Acapulco, and three at Indian Wells. Throw in one easy Davis Cup match, and you have a total of 14 matches in two-and-a-half months. That's hardly an exhausting pace. He can't be tired if he was screwing around with doubles at IW.

Frankly, I think Murray is still worn down from chasing Djokovic last year, the effort it took to overtake him

Djoker...maybe it's decline, a funk, personal issues

I will say this...I remember he underachieving greatly in 09 and most of 2010 and it came out later he was dealing with personal issues(i think he and jelena had split and then got back together), so there is precedence for it being a personal funk

Then again with the parting of ways with Becker ....who knows

Frankly speaking, may be gut check time for both.

Both have won slams, both won their pet slam( FO for Djoker, Wimbledon for Murray)

Both have all the money in the bank world

Married, got kids...

This is the age when the rubber meets the road for guys with a family.

Murray is injured. Even Fed said Stan told him in Dubai, after practising with him. And he's clearly shown signs of it. Understandable, after his efforts last year.

Djokovic OTOH I have a hard time understanding. He says its been for months. Then why take a wildcard into Acapulco? If he was scheduled for it, I get playing it not to disappoint fans. But he wasn't. He openly chose to go there. I know he's struggled with his shoulder in the summer of 2015 and wrist or something last summer, but this year I don't understand. Doesn't make sense.

This thread's OP and most of the hyperbolic commentariat remind me once again why I stopped posting here for years. I'd forgotten how many of you on here have paranoid schizophrenia and various other mental health issues

Now I agree with you James. :)

Djokovic looked as good as in 2011. Unfortunately for him I think the tour has just entered a strong era and he's been figured out. Players like Nick Kyrgios know exactly what to do to beat him. It was sad to see Nole get beat in straights without getting any opportunity to break Nick's serve in 2 matches now. But we have to accept that players are getting better. You either reinvent your game like RF or fall in second or third rounds of tournaments. Nole is still a great player though, now playing in a really tough era since mid January this year.

Elbow injury my årse. Murray played a gruelling tennis match against Federer not a long time ago. Djokovic played Davis Cup by hitting the cräp out of the balls just a few days ago.

kind of like WTF 2014 final? Injured, then win DC less than a week later?
Or this one is different for you?

Didn't you idiots see the post match interview after their exho yesterday?

Murray was constantly stretching his forearm/wrist/elbow.

Typical thing people with golfer elbow do.

I dont understand why you play an exho if you are injured. OK, the effort is not the same, but I guess you will recover better not playing any tennis, specially with the red hot player of the season

Gotta love the tinfoil trillby wearers of TT. Their minds seem to operate like some kind of inverse Occam's Razor. Funny to read though :)

Personally? I blame the scapegoats.

I can believe it for Murray, but idk what is going on with Djokovic. What he does in the upcoming months will give a better picture.
