I have to admit

I have to admit it being a Fed fan all these years. Djoko v Nadal is awesome. Fed v Nadal was a pain for me to watch in the recent years. These guys are taking the game to a different level. Nadal is playing some amazing tennis I'm in awe. Djoko still will prevail I belive in the long run due to his style of game. But Nadal is number one for sure.

Wow. A cool Fed Fan that appreciates the game of tennis and can congratulate and respect other players and their games.
Nice post!

Yes, there are Fed fans and Nadal fans that are actually respectful and not trolls. These forums sometimes muck the waters and people can lose sight of that.

nadal respect

yes ...I don't know why there is some anti-nadal sentiment on here either.

a) begrudgingly admitting he's great while making PED innuendo

b) claiming he's boring (******) when Murray takes that trophy easily. Murray's game almost entirely relies on opponents errors. last year Open final had an even worse error/winner ratio and the wimby final was pathetic....but of course no outrage about how boring the game is, in July.

c) he must be gay because his girlfriend "isn't hot"(but fed is loyal)

d) as most of his slams come from clay...they shouldn't count.

e) He wins because most of the tour has been slowed down in his favor
eg (blue clay). While this is actually true, what this also doesn't acknowledge is that generally the top players of each era have benefitted slightly from conditions that favour their game. all the top players from borg to mac to pete to fed will admit this. eg Macenroe wins heaps while wood racquets are still dominant. Did we hear people say "Peak McEnroe wins 0 slams in the 90's...he benefitted from the conditions of the time). Sampras benefitted in fast 90's conditions and with 3 slams on grass, Laver's shotmaking ("no way in hell I'm playing percentage tennis") benfitted.

f) Racquet?string technology....see e)

g) he can't win indoors......so what? murray can't win on clay..djoko has trouble on grass....Yes Fed has a great resume in this respect. But the main reason he hasn't won indoors yet is he's concentrated on surfaces he's more likely to win and peak on them.(you can't blame him for that)... I would assume he'll make a big effort now...his knees are ok.

h) his english is poor (so what?...he gets the main ideas across, no?)

i) he fakes injuries (come on, we all djoko was king in that department(better now)..and let's not get started on murray..who winces in pain one moment then hit's around the post winners next point). This gamesmanship is commonplace across the WHOLE tour...fed to a lesser extent. if you don't like

Overall...Nadal's achievements are unbelievable when you consider the competition he's had.

Remember....when fed won his first slam, the 2003 wimby, the last 8 had
exactly 0 slam titles between them (schalken, bjorkman, arod, scud, fed, grosjean, popp, mayer)

THIS IS THE WASTELAND from which FED emerged. with the likes of VERKERK and SCHUETTLER. making slam finals LOL.

By contrast...to emerge..nadal had to deal with fed...and for a lot of his career PEAK DJOKOVIC and PEAK MURRAY>

His winning percentage is crazy when you take out the slams he's won.

here is the last 9 slams nadal has played>

FRENCH: 7 WINS
WIMBY: 6/1
US2011: 6/1
AUSTRALIA 6/1
FRENCH12: 7 wins
WINBY12: 1 /1
FRENCH: 7 wins
WIMBY: 0/1
US2013: 7 wins

That's 47 wins, 5 losses.

Rafa won the Madrid Masters in 2005 when it was played indoors. He defeated Ivan Ljubicic 3–6, 2–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6(7–3). It was a huge win for him before an enthusiatic Spanish crowd.

anti nadal

It seems one source of annoyance is nadal's style of play.

For those of us that watched the 90's closely...such as me.

we have a hard time comprehending nadal's success in the context of the 90's

there was a famous player, called Muster, who had a similar gameplan.

Don't dismiss Thomas compared to Nadal..the guy had game, great stamina

was generally regarded as one of the fittest guys on tour...and overcame
adversity...he was in a car accident in 89 that set his career back a couple of years.

Stich, Edberg, rafter, Sampras, all these S@V had awesome records against him....even thou at one point he was number one and had something like 40 ATP titles to his name.

You kind of get it when I hear sampras talk about nadal...he was advocating
Fed should S@V against Nadal as far back as Rome 2006.
But now I think pete just gives up...

it's like "If these guys can't take Nadal's shots out of the air then they deserve to lose"

While I believe that very simplistic....it has it's roots in 90's surfaces/style.

Overall...Nadal can only play the field in front of him..thus he is great..no *'s
