Ideal Men's Semis?

I started to think about this after reading a couple posts about it in the thread on Ginepri getting screwed against Haas. Who would everyone prefer to see in the men's semifinals, and who do you think is going to get there?

Federer is clearly the favorite in his section, but Blake or Berdych could certainly provide interesting matches. I'd love to see Blake take him out, but I don't think that's going to happen. In the event that Safin plays his best, he should get past Haas and the Murray/Davydenko winner, and that could lead to an excellent match with Fed. Unfortunately, Davydenko will probably grind through his next two matches and subsequently serve as a comfortable red carpet for Federer to walk over into the final.

On the bottom I'm definitely hoping to see Roddick/Nadal. I think that match would generate all kinds of interest, second only to a Roddick/Federer final.

I think everyone feels the same way. Federer vs Safin, and Nadal vs Roddick are the ideal semifinals. The dream final is Federer vs Roddick here at the Open though, not Federer vs Nadal.

Yes, except I'd like to see Murray or Safin against Fed. If Hewitt wins against Roddick, he'll get creamed by Nadal in the semis. I'd MUCh rather have Roddick/Nadal.

I dont think Nadal would cream Hewitt. Hewitt has never lost easily to Nadal, even at the French Open this year which is Nadal's best surface by far, and Hewitt's worst by far, Hewitt took Nadal to 4.

Haas is my second favorite player so I wuold love to see him in the semis vs Safin. He has no shot though I believe, he took too much out of himself physicaly today. Even if he does well early it will be like the 2002 Australian semis when he lost to Safin, barely able to do anything the last 2 sets after being up 2 sets to 1.

everyone never agrees on anything on this board. hehe

i will take federer v safin on the top. (blake don't have the goods to take out fed and get to the final)

and on the bottom, i will take nadal (by default) and hewitt (who i think has a better shot at beating nadal than roddick). of course hewitt is in a dog-fight with gasquet, as we speak. he may be toast in this round.

Well, except for return of serve, Nadal does pretty much everything better than Hewitt right now. You might be right that it would be closer on this surface, but I can't see Hewitt outlasting Nadal on any surface. I'd think Nadal would win in 3 or 4 sets, but that's just my opinion.

of course ideally its got to be federer-safin and roddick-nadal...seeing federer and his greatness go against safin and his talent which only comes out so....randomly

and everyone wants to see roddick and his super 140mph+ serving on super saturday against nadal

but who does everyone want to see win?

it could be nadal, beating federer in the final...or federer could seriously step it up and beat roddick in the final, showing even how roddick got so much better, still he's no match for federer....or maybe safin upsets federer? and roddick beats safin to win the whole thing??

of course this is taken into fact that hewitt could ruin the roddick show, should he win...currently 3-3 in the 4th, hewitt up 2 sets to 1...

and should safin beat haas tomorrow, as its a given federer will beat whoever and then either blake or berdych...same for nadal..

oh, ideally.........

I would like to see Federer, Murray, Roddick, and Nadal, but sadly I doubt Murray's gonna get that far, so I bet it'll be Federer, Nadal, Roddick, and Safin.

I managed to get tickets to the men's semis so I hope it's a good matchup.

Roddick needs Safin or Murray or ____ to take out Fed is he's gonna win the Open this year. Otherwise, I think Fed's gonna take it.

I'd like to see Andy holding the trophy again, but it just seems like too tall a task this year.

Federer vs Safin and Nadal vs Roddick. You have a total of 13 slam titles in that SF. Rog 8 , Rafa 2, Marat 2, Andy 1

Nadal is the only one with a chance to beat Federer to be honest of the players left. I guess Safin and Blake would be next. Murray doesnt have a prayer of beating Fed here. He lost half of his serve games vs Fed in Cincy and if Fed was normal there he would not have been losing his serve much, if at all, leading to a comfortable Fed win. If Murray somehow scrapes into the semis he will have a painful beatdown awaiting him from Fed.

If Roddick is serving over 70% like he has been most of the tournament, I'd give him a better shot that anyone else on this surface in front of a NY crowd.

Hewitt holds a 3-0 record against Nadal on hardcourts, not to mention holding a 4-1 record overall against him (his only loss was on clay) AND winning their last encounter.

I think Hewitt'll win that one if it happens.

Not to rain on the parade but are you even aware when those first 3 hard court meetings, especialy the first 2 of those 3, took place? :p

You might be right but Roger reads and returns Roddick's serves better then anyone else.

no one wants to see federer have to prove he can beat murray this summer on a hard court? no doubt he can, but i think him having to prove it will be interesting. I do enjoy watching safin come back to life so that would be cool too.

Perfect... Just what I think it will be.

A Nadal Fed. Final on this surface would be nice since I'm going to the Final Match.

Roddick vs. Nadal, I think would generate high ratings,
more so than Hewitt vs. Nadal.

Will be crucial deciding match as well.

I agree. If we are looking at ratings only, I say Roddick vs Nadal.

I agree that the ideal semis would be Federer vs. Safin and Roddick vs. Nadal but it I would really like to see a Safin vs. Nadal final. Especially if Safin is playing his best, I'm really curious to see how he would hold up against Rafa. With his amazing pure talent, is Safin the one to beat Rafa?

I do not want to see Hewitt get past Roddick. If we get another Federer/Hewitt final, I will be pissed.

So will I, and cuz i live in Aus. they will make so much hype and fuss about it. OMG I dont want Hewitt to beat Roddick. Far out man, he shouldnt have beaten Roddick in last year's Aus. Open semis either.

Well with the events of today. Federer vs Roddick. I think this would be best for Fed as in, long at last maybe some US citizens will watch him play. That said, I really would prefer Hewitt.

Neither Hewitt nor Nadal seemed to have brought their intensity to the quarterfinals..how sad

If you are an Australian you should have been cheering for Hewitt. :p

I wish they could have setup the draw to make it Federer vs Agassi in the semis, Nadal vs Roddick in the semis too :). Or Federer vs Nadal; Roddick vs Agassi :). That'd be like having 3 finals if the first two went into five sets.

But Federer - Safin; Roddick - Nadal would be a good one (as it fits the draw).
