hey guys, so basically at the moment:

No. 2- Roger Federer 5205
No. 3- Novak Djokovic 4645

thats a gap of 560 points.

so far, djokovic has won 2 RR matches (+200), won his SF (+200), so if he wins the F tonight (+250), then thats another 650 rankings points for him, so he should have 5295 points when the new rankings come out next monday.

is that the way it works??? im only asking because i read on another thread somewhere that because djokovic lost to tsonga that that particular loss sealed the year end no.2 ranking for federer.

if someone can clarify this, that would be great. :)

Federer also won a RR match, so he gets +100. Djokovic needed the 100 points from the Tsonga match if he wanted to have a chance at #2.

I don't understand why he can't Fed loses like what? 600 points? And Nole gains like 600, so I don't understand why Fed would still be #2. I'm not sure about this so if someone can correct me I'd appreciate it.

They had already subtracted the 600 points from Fed's total, and have yet to add his +100 from the RR win against Stepanek. He was at 5805 before the Masters Series started.

Djokovic, even if he wins the final (+650 points to his total = 5295), will be 10 points behind Federer (5305) for the #2 spot

I remember at one point he came as close as 60 points to take over #2 spot from Nadal...

Here is his chance, however, he has a lot of points to defent early next season... I don't see him passing Fed soon...

Djokovic should have won over Tsonga. Too bad he lost, otherwise he should have been #2 by now.

Djokovic was very close in Hamburg. He was up a break in the first set and I believe(I could be wrong correct me if I am) had a chance for a double break. Nadal broke back and ended up winning the set 7-5. Djokovic won the second 6-2 but lost the third 6-2 so he was very close, if he had won that first set he would have taken it.

Also at the FO had he beaten Nadal and gone on to win the title he'd have taken it.

He's playing the Brisbane warmup tournament for the AO in January and Federer isn't playing any of the AO warmup tournaments so if he does well at Brisbane he'll overtake Federer and be seeded 2nd for the AO.

If he wants to do it he'll have to do it then, because after that he'll have tons to defend basically everywhere. In the start-of season hardcourt stretch the only place where he can pick up a lot of points is Miami where he lost first round.

^If Djokovic is seeded #2, people will now wonder in whose side of the draw Federer will fall into :) We might even get a Nadal-Federer for the first time in a hard-court slam.

Imagine the psychological blow for Federer had Djokovic clinched the no. 2 rank this year. After 237 weeks at #1, he sharply falls to #3 within months!

For every chance Djokovic had in winning a big match, Federer has had just as many if not more. Federer was up 4-0 against Nadal in the second set at Monte Carlo and 5-1 up against him in Hamburg in the first set. Then there was the Wimbledon final, his losses against Simon and Karlovic and his loss against Simon again the in the TMC when he was up a set and a break. The important thing is that they didn't win those matches because for whatever reason, their opponents played a better game.

Then he could possibly be too tired to win the next 2 matches. I think Djoker did the right thing, while Murray did him a big favor by defeating Roger and burning out.
