You Brits and your cockney sayings. How do you expect us Yanks to know what you mean when you say chuffed? We across the pond speak English (our version of it)

Anyway, congratulations, and may he/she be healthy, wealthy and wise like their father.

congrats fella,

It's a shame - I gave my Head Radical Jnr to a charity shop not long ago.
I could've have dropped it off with you ;)

origmarm: congratulations to the max!

Being a father is really a growing experience for the dad, as well as the kid. You'll be very surprised, in many ways.

We're hoping for more here. Say, don't forget to buy one of those junior-sized tennis racquets! :)

You could have said 'chuffed to monkeys". :) They would have been really confused!

Great news. Congratulations!

(Now you're really going to know the weight of ... responsibility.) Being parents helps us grow.

Thanks for all the congrats guys! I still can't really believe it, I reckon once the bump is apparent it will sink in a bit more. I'm really looking forward to it though, it's one of the great experiences of life. I'm still smiling at people in the street like a lunatic

But the sleep...oh the sleep...:(

It's already got a 17inch Donnay Aluminium racquet waiting for it! Same first racquet as it's dad :). Apparently I have to buy it different coloured/weight balls now though, how things have changed....

Had my first one 4 months ago and I must warn you, the first 2 months are pretty brutal. After that, it just gets easier and much more fun. As for the sleep, I'll make 2 recommendations:

1) Buy the miracle blanket. It looks cruel, but it mimics the feeling of the baby in the womb. We did not use it until 6 weeks and our baby went from sleeping 4 hours a night up to 8 hours a night in a few days.

2) Buy a sound machine.

As for tennis, get used to playing less! I miss getting out there 5 days a week, but I'd never give up my little guy for any amount of tennis. Congrats.

Thanks mate I'll have to check that out, I've seen a similar product that a friend of mine had and he seemed very happy with it also. Seems a good idea in principle for sure. Hopefully I'll fall into category 3 on their website! :)

I saw the little guy/girl on a scan today and it was moving about. Was really something! Beats a static picture for sure.

Thanks guys!

I hope I do mate a good dad R, I intend to do everything I can to ensure that that's the case. It's certainly a big worry at this point though. I think it's one of those things where you're never going to feel good enough, there's always something more you could have done etc..etc..

As my wife would say, I think as long as your child has all your love you can't give it more than that in life. Everything else is icing.

That saying has however made me want a cup of coffee and some cake :)....

Congratulations!!! Your wife sounds like she has the right idea. I think the biggest fear of a parent is not having all the answers and doing something wrong. A boat load of love is really always the right thing and never wrong.

You guys will do fine!

Congrats!

Expect to lose a lot of sleep during the first few months. I lost about 30 lbs during the 4 months. It was my weight reduction program. But that was a long time ago. :)

Again, congrats. Your life just got 1000% better. You'll appreciate life a whole lot more.

Congrats!

Save up on your sleep now. Also, get in some tennis while you can, you may have to take a little break.

Even though I said in my first post a healthy boy or girl(which is of course the most important), I'll bet you would like a boy if you had a choice.
So in addition to me hoping your baby is healthy, I will hope that you see an extra appendage on one of your future ultrasounds.

This will make you laugh but I was convinced I had a boy for a minute as it has a "tail" i.e. a coccyx bone that will later retreat into the spinal column area but you could see it on the scan. I was impressed for a minute! :)

It is pretty exciting when you see the first scan. The change from the first to the second is also pretty amazing. The other tip I'd give is to use gas drops in each bottle. The first night back from the hospital my boy was screaming all night with gas. Luckily the Australian Open was on otherwise I would have gone crazy.

Congratulations, a baby will change your world for the better!

I posted my advice to Lakoste and I would say the same things to you. Good news like this brightens up peoples' days, even if they don't really know you!

Well done to you both!

Congratulations!

Get a baby swing and/or vibating bouncer thing. You will only use it for the first few months but they help a lot.

I have both. The swing is an absolute must. We have a bouncing thing now where the baby stands in the center and can bounce up and down like crazy + spin around. He was not tall enough to use it until this week.

Ha, those bouncing thing is usually call jolly jumper. I was talking about something like this:
http://www.ebrandon.ca/itemview.aspx?item_id=94492

I had all of those, my older daughter went on the jolly jumper for half an hour every night, and bounce around the whole time! Had lots of fun with it.

Beware, they can bounce and poop at the same time, the result can be a bit messy, haha.

origmarm, if you are getting a jolly jumper, get the one with the whole thing sit on the ground instead of those attach to the top of door frame, because the door frame is usually too narrow for the baby to jump.

Yep, that is what I have. It is funny watching them bounce around. Not looking forward to the poop thing in it though.

There is a book titled "I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids". I think you could substitute Dad in there too. Some of your preconceived rules will go out the window once you are a parent. It is so fun on some days and so trying on others, but never a bad day :)

Thanks again for the congrats guys!!

I'm defo going to get one of those baby swings I think. They seem to be a lifesaver from what my friends have told me. I'm really not looking forward to the poop thing though, that just sounds horrific. That and my flat (in retrospect not a good decision) has cream carpets! I'm thinking I might have to do something about that prior to November :)

Kid was kind of planned, I guess I just didn't expect results anywhere near this quickly! The little guys are clearly swimming better than they should. It clearly all works as designed .

Saw my grandmother who's getting VERY old at this point yesterday and took her the scan. She was so happy it brought tears to my eyes. I hope she gets to meet her great grandchild.
