If Victor Conte of BALCO designed undetectable steroids, others must be doing the same.
Beware of the players that seem clean.

If ephedrine is not banned at exhibitions then there is no reason why it should not be taken by a player during an exhibition. As I understand the position it is not banned at exhibitions, so the player has no case to answer.

Whether it should be banned at an exhibition is another matter.

Screen name of "Zverev" = not exactly the most impartial observer when it's Russian players who are involved in a drug cheating.

Just be careful with your phrasing mate. What Russian playerS ? That's how all the buzz is being created.

Data I would like to see the list of substances banned during competition. Can you post this? Agassi said the list is enormous and that you need to read labels on everything because alot of over the counter ordinary stuff contains banned substances. I realize it is their job to make sure they are 'clean'. I'm not disagreeing that tennis players dont intentionally enhance, just that innocents get busted and users parse the system..it's a very imperfect system. i dont have any of the answers, just questions like everyone else..to speculate who is using and who is not in tennis is pretty ridiculous, because it isnt evident like barry bonds who has a head the size of your halloween pumpkin :) to say someonhe like hewitt must be using because he has developed muscles compared to 6months or a year ago is pretty wild speculation, altho i dont doubt that he does. as to that belgium dude's motivation for trying to bust her, who knows? again, more wild speculation

Oh interesting, now there is an off-season in tennis? Listening to the players all year long you wouldn't think so. How convenient.

I say, give those guys a one-year probation period where they would be tested day in day out and then we can compare their results with the previous season. No convenient 3 months suspensions and protected rankings. Let them play, just have someone stand behind them everytime they pee.

Yeah and if they have the credibility of Claude Eerdekens, then I would expect the samples to be 'tainted' afterwards. Claude Eerdekens tried to be a hero by playing his political games in the sporting world. He should get a taste of his own 'medicine' soon enough.

You are the one that said Coria got caught for ephedrine. I pointed out it was Nandrolone.

Personally, if I was allowed a 1 performance enhancing drug, side effect free, for tennis, I'd choose Ephedrine over steroids any day. Ephedrine has direct game day enhancing benefits, so directly relevant to tennis demands. Having said that, I've used ephedrine(although never in the dosage that tends to recommended) and know first hand the benefits, I have never used steroids despite being in an environment surrounded by them for years.

I was mistaken Coria with someone else, maybe Chelea.

I agree with your last paragraph. There is a big difference between Ephedrine which is a stimulant and Nandrolone which is a steriod. Nandrolone and all steriods are prohibited in any case while Ephedrine isn't due to its effect limited only on game day.

Since its effect limited to game day, it is questionable why would SK "CHOSE" to use ephedrine to get benefit for an exhibition tournament? This is the reason I and many others don't give much weight to this story. Nandrolone is a different matter.

I think it is good for posters like you and me pointing out the difference. Most people don't know that. Ephedrine is in the same class as Caffeine labeled as stimulant. You can take if you want out of competition or during competition, but just not exceeding certian limits during competition.

Drink 8 cups of coffee and down a couple No-Doze before playing a match, feel like a million bucks, and be illegally stimulated

Caffeine is a banned substance ?????????????

Neither Ephedrine nor Caffeine are banned completely. Yes, during competition there is legal limit on Ephedrine and Caffeine intake. So accurately speaking, they are controlled substance, not banned substance.
