IPAs = PED?

Clearly beers are a PED for activities such as bowling, pool etc. This is undeniable. But, does the same go for tennis? Just played my best tennis ever after drinking 32oz of a delicious IPA an hour before. Guy had beaten me previously in straight sets(bageled second). I expected to lose again but couldn't miss a shot and won 6-2 6-2. Was playing above my ability..... is IPA the answer? Should match count? Is beer the cause and solution to all my problems?

I know more than a few players who swear by a beer before a match. They claim it makes them less stressed/tight and helps them play more relaxed/better. I suppose a valium would work just as well.

Should the match count? Well, only if it is in Tennislink or a verified UTR match.

Even if I knowingly took a performance enhancing drug prior to performance?

The best singles player on the 3.5 team that won Nationals a few years ago cracked open a beer DURING his matches at Nationals. It was a crappy domestic beer too.
Give him an imported beer ftw,

Haha this is great. In 2014 at nationals in Indian Wells, the team from Northern (St Paul, MN) brought Leinenkugel Summer Shandy as their team gift to us other teams - it was awesome. During the first set tiebreak at 4-1 up on the changeover, I was so annoyed (jokingly annoyed, not really) at my partner that my teammate handed me 2/3 of an open beer and I downed it. Everyone thought it was hilarious. Good times....;)

I bring beer to every match - enough to share--pre, during, post for whoever wants one.

only problem is summer matches at schools...so i only drink on the drive over since the schools are zero-tolerance. I'm *joking*.
No beer at public parks or at University courts.

Earlier this week after my partner and I won the first set he confided in me that he forgot we were playing and came straight from dinner where he'd had 5 margaritas. Good times.
He did not tell the whole story about those Margaritas,

Happens all the time...would he have told you if you had lost the first set?! HA!

If someone can beat me while drinking a beer, it aint cause of the beer. So more power too them.

I love watching opponents woof down bananas & gatorade. I’d only gain more confidence seeing them crack a beer open.

Before moving to South Carolina from Virginia i can only recall one occasion having a beer on court. But I’ve found it to be fairly common for guys down here to drink beer during league matches. I’ve even run into a dude that keeps a bottle of jameson in his bag and he breaks it out regularly during play. I couldn’t be rude and declined when he offered it to me right?;)

IPA is a staple in our practice/social tennis circle (2 weeknights per week). Great lubricant for my knee.

League matches, only occasionally - usually when it's hot and i'm down a set. I've experienced good results.

Recall playing a match that meant nothing after our team was eliminated from contention. Ate a dozen Krispy Kreme Glazed donuts during the match, just too sweet.

Last week I drank a beer while playing tennis but it wasn’t planned.

I had just finished playing doubles and was drinking beer with the guys I just played with, when a total stranger came to our table asking if anyone wanted to hit with him. The guy he was hitting with unexpectedly injured his shoulder at the beginning of their booking.

I didn’t want the rest of my beer to be wasted or get cold so I brought it to the court and hit with the guy.

It definitely helps with a beer or two to loosen up and stop thinking to much. I reckon a time when I struggled to find my 1hbh. I spent a good hour on a nice indoor court trying everything to no avail. Then we had a pizza and two beers and headed back home and on the way we passed this ****ty asfalt court in the local park. It was available and I thought hey let's give it a go I am not done yet. I didn't change to tennis clothes or anything just picked up a racquet and everything clicked, hit nice backhands like it was nothing. Since then I have been tempted to have a beer before matches but so far I haven't.

Threads like this remind me of mixed dubs. Friday night matches were as much about beer and food as tennis.
Well, and I like beer.
A lot.

Hit my best ever overhead backhand after a couple beers. Overall, it was an average day on the court.
