Is this the best pair of major semifinal matches since the big 4 era?

We have Nadal vs Djokovic going for the record books in the first semifinal in one of the most significant matches in the history of tennis.

On the other semifinal, we have 2 of the best next genners who have shown their acumen on clay already, gunning for a breakthrough major.

Possibly the most intriguing sets of semi final matches at a major since the big 4 were at their peak.

It looks like it is the most exciting lineup since AO 12 SFs. There is also FO 19 (Federer-Nadal, Djokovic-Thiem) but windy/hurricane conditions really screwed up that day.

Rg 2019 was exciting although Rafa- Fed turned out to be a damp squib , last real great set of semis were AO 2017 if this gets even 60-70% of those then it will be epic. (Wimbledon 2018 was also good although Isner-Anderson became a torture to sit through so don't count that)

Don't think anyone expected Fed to trouble Nadal in RG 2019. It was only great for the novelty of seeing them play on clay again

The dynamic of a guaranteed Big 3 vs NextGen final is its strength but having just two multi-slam winners dilutes its impact. AO’17 (with 3) and AO’12 (also 3) with their The Real Slam SF lineup have been nominated and now seconded. Also in 2012, the RG lineup with Ferrer and the Big 3 was strong.

It's exactly the SF most fans expected. Medvedev was #2 but still not good enough on clay, Thiem was #4 but out of shape, a lot knew it wouldn't be Thiem-Medvedev. Zverev won Madrid and Tsitsipas won Monaco, so it's no surprise to see them in SF. With Federer and Rublev as the main seeds in QF, Nadal/Djokovic was almost a given.

Zverev/Tsitsipas is 50/50 for me. Most see Tsitsipas winning but I think Zverev has a real chance here.
Nadal/Djokovic is 70/30. Nadal clearly favorite but at the same time Djokovic may be the only one who has a chance.

Yes. I think for me this is the best possible semi final setup with the 4 current best players on clay (Sorry Thiem) and i think both SFs are balanced. Much better than say Zverev vs Djokovic and Tsitsipas vs Nadal. So yeah, all in all i'm really happy with how this has played out!

In terms of outcome, 2017 AO & 2018 WMB were the last.

I don't think either match goes 5 though.

Federer did trouble Nadal for the first 2 sets. If Nadal was just a bit less clutch he would have lost that second set.
