James Blake is done!

no masters, no slams, i dont think he will even make it to shanghai.

this guy is done, hes had his best year.

thats a person who is done, not nadal or federer.

If there's one thing I know about James Blake, its that you can never count the man out. He's still young, he's still fit, Im pretty sure he'll atleast be top 20 for another 2-3 years.

If you mean he's never going to win a Slam, then yes he's done. I wouldn't put one MS shield past him though...

and musical, he's not young.

He couldn't be consistent enough this year. My coach always tells me that big hitters like blake are always vulnerable to consistency. My coach told me that one problems with blake is taht hes had the same coach for his entire career telling him to do the exact same thing. I think if blake got a coach like stephankie or even conners the good results would be immediate. Stephankie would teach blake about when to go for winners while conners would teach blake about how to be mentally strong. Blakes biggest obstacle is mental. I always see some problems with his footwork as you rarely see him fully set up for shots. He always looks off balance which leads to multiple errors.

even before the tournament starts, blake is basically done...
he just doesn't have what it takes to be a champ.....
forget about him, he is over

I agree that he needs a new coach, or atleast let somebody else into the Blake camp to give a different perspective if he is that attached to Brian Barker and doesnt want to let him go completely. Blake has the talent to win slams, but as long as he is stuck with the same ol balls to the wall tennis game plan then its never going to happen.

Blake is done? When was he ever "undone"? He never won anything big in his life.

So is Fed done because he's lost twice in the past 3 weeks? What about earlier in the year when he lost twice to Canas?

Yes, this is an extreme example, but what is with all of the 'so-and-so is done!' threads on here. Some of y'all are very quick to write people off.

And lest you forget: Blake came back from a life-threatening injury, AND lost his father at the same time. Not many athletes would have the fortitude to do that.

Props to Blake. I do not agree that he is done, and he is one of the best sportsmen in the game today.

Wow. Just. . . just wow. So a guy has to win a major to be good in your book? That leaves roughly 3,000 some-odd players around who aren't worth spit in your book.

his probably one of those guys who only likes a player just because they win alot of majors and such =_=.. pathetic.

Eloquent, clinical words. I couldn't agree more.

Yes, if you didn't know already, Morrisey's sense of logic has been tainted by years of sniffing Nadal's thong panties.

I think Blake is still a dangerous contender in the ATP...
Look at his supporter...damn....I used to be OK with blake, but looking at his supporter...I tend to go with his opponents. His supporter can make him a dangerous player.

Tennis is much more about loosing than winning, every week a player is meant to loose, just one can win, can you imagine how hard is that? any who have ever player tournaments know about this, being in the top 100 of the world is an amazing thing, i wouldnt consider him done untill he drops the 100 at the end of a year. Next year will be a new one, i hope it get better for him

Anyone who really thought he could maintain where he got last year which was top 5 in the world were dreaming. It was an amazing feat for him to get there but it was never going to last. Staying in the top 10 would have been a surprise to me, but not totally impossible or unrealistic, however I am not surprised it hasnt happened all the same.

Alway thought he could use a different coach

Much is made of the Barker-Blake relationship and how they've stayed together as player and coach. But I think perhaps James needs a different mentor for his talents.

Andre ??? Imagine the possibilities.

Ehhh he is talented, no doubt about that but he doesn't seem to come through during the BIG matches.

And 27 is pretty old in the tennis world. I mean look at Nadal....

these threads are ridiculous. why dont we have everyone who isnt in top 10 quit cause OBVIOUSLY everyone is done somehow. ridiculous. have you won a grand slam? oh wait just kidding that's why you're posting here. sorry my bad.

right. I mean all guys that have been playing for some time and are in their mid twenties and have never been in the top hundred are probably never going to win anything. so most of the ATP should quit.

He may have had a bad year or something. Things arenot going to be easy in 2008. Look at the growing players that can pose a challenge to him. It doesnt help that the likes of Djokovics, Nalbandians ,etc appear to be picking up their games very well.

His game requires him to be extremely accurate with limited margins. Tough to do it conistently against great players for extended periods of time.

Why does everybody want to see people fall. Andy Roddick mostly had a bad 2006 but hes somewhat snapped out of it. He's only like 28, he's still got a few more years.

Blake has all the shots but his best shot under pressure is the two handed choke around his neck which he has mastered!

Nice guy thats his problem, he needs to be more self serving like Fed and Roid Boy

Yep, James doesn't have issues with needing a coach so much as needing a couch... I've never seen anyone at that level in the men's game with such a capacity for self-destruction. He has a rather healthy tennis brain in terms of the tactics he uses, but he can flip the negative switch at any point in a match and go into a tailspin. It's kind of creepy. He has the tools, but he needs a sports psychologist to straighten out his noggin.
