Jammed Thumb Help

Well, I'm actually not sure if "jammed" is the proper term, but basically, I was playing basketball, tried to intercept a hard pass, and felt a sharp pain in my right thumb in trying to do so. I can move it around (although it hurts quite a bit to move it) so I think its a muscular thing and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make the pain go away more quickly. I have trouble typing, opening stuff, etc. and its really frustrating, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like 'hyper-extension' injury. If it is not a fracture, u can try hand therapy exercise ball.
If more serious, go to a hand clinic for medical examine and professional therapy clinic (does new US med. pln. cover this cost yet?). - Good Luck.

It may indeed need to be examined to be sure you haven't suffered an avulsion of the ulnar collateral ligament, which is also called "gamekeeper's thumb", or skier's thumb. If this ligament is damaged it often will heal with prompt splinting. But if a peice of the ligament gets caught in the joint, or if there is an associated avulsion fracture, surgery may be needed.
