Jan Silva back in USA

Jan Silva has moved to Finland

I spoke with his best friend's mom at Little Mo is Sacramento. His mother wanted to go back home. They have been gone for some time now. I think he still plays, but not sure. I actually think he is going to have some anonymous opportunities to develop now.

guess you don't comprehend too much.

Thank you for sharing the kind words regarding my inability to comprehend. Perhaps once I approach the 8,000 posts milestone on the forum, I will be able to stand tall amongst forum legends like you. Too funny.

aren't we all "BIG" on forums?? I am rarely on the boards anymore and found out his username was banned...but trust me he is still here. for a guy that claimed to be a tennis "guru" he really needed a forum to sprout off. pathetic.

Banned or not, TCF added value here. And I'll save you the guesswork, I think you'd find that overall, people here value his insight.

I agree, he did add value. He was inflammatory but that does not preclude value. Forums are actually made more useful when thoughtful people disagree.

I didn't see eye to eye with TCF on matters concerning USTA but I always learned something from the debate. There was always logic behind his argument.

Azzuri, common. You know me from the Pro Tour 630 section. TCF, BB, Chalk, #1coach and others all are very special contributors to the boards. They know more about Jr development than I know about PT630's.

exactly. either magg and chalk are him or they are just as dimwitted.

I'm not BB or TCF. Any active forumite knows that as we've had many discussions with opposing perspectives. Nevertheless, in your eyes I'm dimwitted. It's all good padre as I've been called worse.

What do you mean by "anonymous opportunities"

Having been a participant in many of said discussions, I can say I've gotten value from them. We are passionate people with many perspectives, opinions, and experiences - all of which are valid. If you're not up for a healthy discussion or to learn something new, why post on a forum?

most, if not all of my issues with TCF had nothing to do with jr development. could care less about it, it was his way.

oh..he was banned for a reason. the guy was a jerk plain and simple.

well he does use kind words

Lets just discuss junior tennis and let him do his thing. We all wish the boy Jan nothing but success.....just like all the many tennis kids out there.

see, maybe you are not this incredible jerk you seem to be on the forum. Those were kind words.

TCF posted a comment on ZOOtennis last week after the Todd Martin interview. He was quite anti-Todd getting involved with teaching juniors. I completely disagree with TCF - now there's a shocker! I'm not saying I'm right, but I'd let Todd Martin look at my kid's game any day.

I hate that T.C.F is no longer posting. He was someone you could count on daily for advice or just someone to talk tennis with.He was very passionate about tennis and especially junior tennis.I didnt always agree with him but i respected his opinion. He gave ALOT of good advice to many many people. With my daughter and his daughter being close in age it was always good to talk with him on things we were both going thru.It just isnt the same without T.C.F posting on here anymore. This site use to be a place i would visit several times a day.I miss the great posters like Pro-Tour,Brad Baughman,Chalkflewup,BMC9670,and a few others having great discussions with T.C.F.Im sure T.C.F helped dozens of posters(that had young kids playing tennis)navigate thru the marathon.I really miss having someone like that to talk to.SO SAD THAT HE WALKED AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see why can't you take up his job, if you have time? This message board is a volunteer hobby IMO.
You are qualified with experience and passion about junior tennis : )
I am sure he will come back when he feels like it again. Everyone needs a break sometimes.

I don't think it's anyone's job per se. TCF is TCF. Everyone brings their own special thang to this place. And that's what makes it great. ga tennis adds value here as does 10ismom and on and on. As long as everyone remains respectful, I think it's all good!

YES this is exactly what I was saying, he built debate out of interesting, tennis related topics. Debate is how we shape our ideas, assuming that we have open minds.

Ga Tennis does your daughter play tournaments in Georgia? My son's next tournament is the qualifying in Macon. We are going to the NCAA Championships in Athens tomorrow. It should be fun.

he was banned. you have to be a complete jerk on these boards and repeat violater of rules. it shows a great deal he was banned considering how many "personalities" (inlcuding myself) are on here. you give this dude way to much credit.

Good Question

so where is this kid now? what age is he

Good question. I hope he is doing okay. I did want to share this video with everyone. Keep in mind the boy was 5 years old when he was filmed and he is now 10 and obviously his strokes have developed over time. The boy in this video beat Jan at the Little Mo tournament in the 10 under division.

The boy in the video has a sister who is 6 years old and she is training with the Keiki 65 tennis racket right now.

Make sure you have a long-term development plan when working with this age group.

I think Li'l Mo is an absolute legend but I'm not a fan of the Li'l Mo tournament. Too young to be putting kids on airplanes to play tennis. IMO it's an invitation that sends many parents down the "My kid is the next Andy Roddick" path. I guess that's great for tennis though.

Kids need a life, outside of tennis, otherwise they are candidates for total burn out, then what do they have, a shattered isolated adolescent without social skills? So what do these parents do when their prodigy doesn't win, how do these kids respond to losses, and what happens when that brick wall can't be navigated? To think parents are so self absorbed they can justify denying a child the opportunity to experience other team sports and pursuits is a travesty. One can only speculate as to the roots behind the parental separation and divorce but be certain the results will be immense for both parent and child.

Ask any kid from the Sudan if they would trade places with little Jan or any other over-spoiled American brat then we can reconsider your input on what will burn someone out or not or what a life is .

If you have advanced degrees, education, high income (nevermind if you have free cash flow), you have to create the conditions of deprivation that manifest hunger to have a world class junior. Period. Ready to argue on this point.

All of this despite that fact that many of the top players didn't experience any of said conditions.
