WOW,, that's violation of multiple laws at this point in time. should report to the local officials immedicately. we can't have people playing tennis while I am in lockdown by decree from our silly Governor
Maybe I’m wrong idk. I don’t think all of MA is in lockdown yet. I know the barbershops and some other stores near me are closed. I’m probably wrong tbh.

NH isn't in lockdown. But executive orders have closed down a lot of businesses and added restrictions to others. MA isn't in lockdown - my sister would have mentioned it to me.

I feel totally fine, just off 14 days of self quarantine. I take things very serious regarding this virus, but I am also light hearted about life in general.

There are posters here that does not take the current situation serious, but I think there is a kind of consensus of how serious thes situation is.

There is a lot of misinformations is out too, and that saddens my heart.

Then on the other pole there are people like you who stir things up (with some valid points), creating anxiety and are way to agressive and intense in their posting - this is IMO as bad as not taking the situation serious.

You are not a tennis player, that's obvious - but you are still welcome to post in tennisforums, but please stop spamming.
glad you are free of self quarantine, congrats & some good points you have made there - gotta give you that.
however, in this rather difficult times - common sense prevails. it is just unfortunate that some people still do not take this seriously.... why taking a risk at all?
at the end of the day - i can pretend to be a tennis player, and be active in various tennis forums.... what is the problem with that?
after all - this is the "Odds & Ends" section if a particular forum... so anything goes really.

I want to get the corona virus badly. 70-80 % of the people is supposed to get it eventually. you can't run away from it. I would rather get it now and get it over with
Yep and then after I have had it I should have build up immunity from it, So therefore I have a good excuse not to take the Vaccine (When one is developed) when they try to force it on everyone.

Yes you are right, I just got uptight on a poster who joined Thursday and have posted 95 odd post.... Sorry for that, everyone is of course welcome. :)

What kind of 5.0 thinks touching net posts is even a common thing in tennis? Or that you can't maintain a six feet distance in a sport where players are usually 80 feet apart?

What does it matter what his ranking is? Would you believe him more if he was an ATP pro? Who gives an F.

To the OP, frankly the people on here have their minds set (on most matters) and unfortunately won't budge from their viewpoints... so it's basically falling on deaf ears. Hopefully the majority of people heed the warning (not just on this forum) and when at most possible stay at home. Esp since the POTUS is taking his covid advice from Fox News now...

I don't think that we'll be able to hit tomorrow. We have 4-7 inches of snow forecast for this evening and it means the courts will be wet tomorrow. The Mayors of the Cities north and south of me requested Shelter-in-Place orders from the Governor. He declined their request though I don't know why they couldn't just issue an order for their cities.

Excuse me, are you serious about that? Is that an actual attempt at disproving anyone? With such a thorny topic being discussed?

Sadly, this thread - as almost all threads on here - turned into some personal fights and angry/mocking comments. As always, for many, it seems proving you're right is all that matters.
Maybe that's my fault, I believed this thread wasn't a joke as usual, given the topic being discussed. In that case, I apologize. And, in any case, I'm done with this thread.
Stay safe everyone (angry and non-angry posters).

You don't have to be a 5.0 to know you can maintain a safe distance and not touch potentially contaminated netposts while playing tennis

I have to touch the balls being touched by someone I am already in contact with on a daily basis?

I'm not jumping fences to play tennis. The courts are still open and we don't have a shelter in place order.

Potential Dangers
However, others are more worried about the potential impact of continuing as normal. Jennifer Johnson, 66, has been coaching for over three decades. Whilst she refuses to force others to avoid playing, she believes it is impossible to play tennis without the risk of contracting the coronavirus.
“Tennis players sweat, tennis players pick up balls, tennis players handle balls when they serve or start a point,” she warns. “They wipe sweat away with their hands. From their face. You can be as careful as you want, if you come into contact with other people or objects they touch, there is the potential you will get it.
“Of course we need to exercise, but if you play it’s at your own risk. Are you ready to take that chance?”
Delete. I inadvertently offered IRRESPONSIBLE advice. There may be an impending medical glove shortage. the largest producer of those disposable latex gloves is Malasia and they have cut their work force in half to stop spread in all production facilities throughout the country, expecting individual employers to ask for an exemption rather than a legislative exemption by industry. In Italy hospitals ran out of those gloves and doctors were treating patients without protection.

Later down the road this is a good idea, but not in March or April of 2020. No, we do not need latex gloves to play tennis more safely. They need to stay on the shelves for older/ vulnerable people to use or those providing service to older/vulnerable people.

Op has a valid point that we should all take this seriously. It’s a small sacrifice for everyone’s well being. I initially wanted to play singles but my son strongly advised against it. He was very stern & I realized I was stubborn. I’m refraining from tennis until it’s safe to do my part, to comply with our government, to respect other’s safety, and mostly to respect my son.

These government lock downs are effective in authoritarian societies but do poorly in democratic countries like Europe & US. Look at all of us arguing whether we should be outdoors or not. It shouldn’t even be a question. Stay safe everyone!

I play on Monday. Can hardly wait.
I never expected you to be the type of person to dismiss scientific advice and go about your business as usual.
What was it? The MSM trying to scare people? Is it a hoax perpetrated by Big Mask Manufacturers?
Feeling stupid now huh?

Here's a nifty trick from a food service pro. Wear disposable latex gloves while you play. It does absolutely nothing to avoid the contamination of the ball/ racket to the gloves, but you become very aware whenever you touch your face, or eyes or mouth with that gloved hand. It feels weird on the skin. It effectively discourages direct skin to skin contact behavior that we are not conscious about doing, with our uncovered hands and reminds us to sanitize when we take those gloves off ( before getting in the car) . Its a habit breaker, and a new habit creator

If you keep a healthy distance between changeovers, you should be fine for the most part, at least playing outdoors.

This is a good idea that works. May look weird, but a good idea for the workplace as well. 2 months to develop a new habit.

I just played under lights, If schools are opened then whats the big deal about hitting a tennis ball. I think the club will close at the end of the week I am getting in while I can

I dont need the governments permision to go outside and play tennis or anything else. They wont close off borders but they can make everyone self quarantine? Not me.

Of course not. You are the real hero. I never thought those doctors and nurses working emergency hours amounted to much compared to freedom lovers like you.

no, probably not. Assuming just makes an ass out of u and me  So do you think those other 8 states are overreacting? This is going to get worse before it gets better.
Hell, our lunatic Lt Gov is talking about lifting the Social Distancing mandate to get people back to work to boost Trumpconomy...
His argument is that is 98% will survive, we should not stop "living" for the sake of our children

Recovery time is two weeks so how about letting them return to work. As more and more recover, the workforce will increase. When we have no new infeections, then everyone returns. This may work for places that are low population density with a small number of infections. NYC is a mess.

He says old people will self quarantine. He will have to because he is known. What if the others love their freedoms like any other gun-carrying guy in Texas and refuse? How will you police it? Ask for IDs from everyone found outside? Encourage people to report seeing any old guy outside? Go by appearance? It will head to the Supreme Court in no time and be thrown out.

He is just a proxy for Trump. Nothing will happen to him, only the others will die and then he will blame the CDC or something. Good news is Texas is changing very fast and these arrogant and ignorant crooks are dying pretty fast.

Taiwan tracks phones and the Police will come knocking if your phone is off.

It takes 15 mins to find anyone in China.

Really not hard to track and/or tag people

Town notifications on losing playgrounds, parks and basketball courts. No mention of tennis courts but the intention of closing everything else is clear.

The only gloves at CVS this morning were oatmeal covered gloves. I passed.

Thanks for the clarification. And as someone who works in the healthcare field, I agree. We need those gloves!
