Least Best Looking Racquet?

In your opinion, what is the least best looking racquet (some may use the word ugliest but we don't want to offend anyone by calling their racquet of choice ugly) on the market today?

My wife's, my daughter's, and my vote go for the Dunlop Maxply McEnroe.

Ha ha, I can see your diplomatic effort to downplay the question. Are you referring to modern day racquets?

If so, my vote has to go to the off-yellow colour of the Yonex RDS 001. Reminds me of the Bang Mellow Yellow golf drivers. Great clubs, but draws unnecessary stares ...

lol everyone at my club loves my rds 001 actually, they all want to try it too :D

Deriding the Maxply McEnroe is a little like comparing a Chrysler PT Cruiser to a group of modern cars....it was specifically intended to have a retro look and constitutes a class of one that can't be meaningfully compared to modern designs.

Least best....what subjects do you teach?

He teaches 8th grade math and behavioral psychology with a specialty in obsessive compulsive disorder (at least as it pertains to endlessly searching and playtesting racquets).

Admittedly, it sounds a bit like me ... :D. Hang on, you're describing half of the TT posters sans math and psych!

personally, I don't mind the Maxply (much nicer than the Wilson Kramer: which makes it a party of two) but merely harkening back to the designs of another era doesn't mean you can't make a comparison to modern designs. On the contrary, whether retro or not, ugly is ugly.

My vote goes to either the Gamma Ipex 7.0 Mid+ or the Avery M3.

Not quite. If you go back a couple of years you will discover just how persistent and absurd BBB's search for racquets (then string permutations) had become. He's much better now (I think). He's a very likeable fellow, though, and he tends find a lot of help which makes for some nice comparisons of various racquets.

Most Yonex and Prince rackets are just ugly (because of the shape). I generally find Dunlop's (ok, ...except the maxply :) ), Volkl's, Fisher's and some of the Wilson's quite stylish. I'm talking about serious frames ...everybody has some ugly tweeners in their offer (look at the power arm crap from Volkl ffs :) ).
Just my 2 pence worth.

Of all the racquets I've tried so far, my vote goes to the RDX500. I hate the color from the beginning. I did try very hard to like the frame but just couldn't get over it. Eventually the pair were traded away.

The Maxply comes in close second, though.

other than the ncode 90 and 95, i find the other wilson ncodes and wilson rackets in general very cheap looking, like the kind you find in walmart and big 5 sports that are already strung...

POG although I like it a lot (OS). If it has a paintjob like...eh... prostaff 6.0 or prince's own precision response 660 (they must have hired a real artist for that one)... Why so plain, boring paintjob for such a classic? Does anyone like 2006 Camry design? Can anyone possibly like it? I don't drive a camry but I am glad 2007 Camry is a little bit better (mind you I am not saying camry is a classic car). I just don't understand so many things. How about O3 tour's cosmetic for POG?

If someone gets offended by you calling their racquet ugly, they have bigger problems than this board.

I vote Prince Turbo Beast.

Funny...the RDX 500 has been my stick for a couple years, and it seems boring to me now.

The RDS hits great, looks funny w/the bright yellow, but doesn't qualify as least-best, I think.

The winnah is...the Dunlop M-Fils...I've been demoing the 300 and the 200, and while I like the colors of both, (and am enjoying how the 300 hits w/lead added very much) the asymetrical and way too busy design is very least-best, IMHO. I get a headache just looking at it in my hand... :)

APD is even less good looking in person. The black and the green is ok but then the blue comes out of nowhere...not to mention the shape of the racquet!

I agree with a previous poster...the new Dunlops look way too busy as do the new Babolat PD's. Why must they make racquets looks so "edgy"?

I'll vote for the Diablo XP in my bag, only because of the flames.
Otherwise, pick anything from the W Line.

How did I miss that! Why did you leave your beloved 500 in favor of a light tweener?

Maybe you can help me with an equation:

2x - x = 0

2x = x

2 = x/x

2 = 1

I have a Maxply and decided to take it even further by using a lime green overgrip. My strategy is to make it so loud and offensive it distracts my opponent.

Other racquets I don't like the look of:

1. The M-Fil 300, but only because of that dumb candy cane grip.

2. Any of the new game-improvement racquets with the gimmicks like the Metallix, Airflow and Power Arm.

3. The Gamma Ipex 7.0. I'm demoing it now, for the second time. The first time I demoed it, I was so prejudiced against it's looks I didn't even give it a fair trial. The graphics design and color combo is ugly, the paint quality is really poor and it comes with a cheap-looking grip. However, after demoing it a second time, I may end up buying it because I enjoy the way it plays. It should be right at home with my Maxply.

Aww. come on guys, really? The yellow RDS 001? The Paintjob looks really nice in person. Almost like a sport car yellow shine finish. It's a very positive feeling racket when you pull it out of your bag. Trust me on this one.

MY VOTE

THE FISHER M-SPEED Pro Number 1with it's GREEN, RED POSITIVE NEGATIVE themed paint scheme, look at it in person and makes you feel wheezy. It's just so tacky. Look at it, the head as two different colors, the silver at the 3 & 9

the lettering is red on one side and green on the other. That's the most ridiculous rackets I've ever seen in person! Sure, you can't tell when you're on the other side of the court. But when it's in your hand, arrrgghh... you try not to look at it.
