Let's be honest, Djokovic was screwed worst this season

I'm not salty at all lol. You think I'm a Djokovic fan? I simply have a brain in my head. The notion that what Djokovic did warranted a DQ is a complete joke and symptomatic of the soft, PC world we now live in. There was no rule that he had to be defaulted - the officials took the soft approach when any reasonable person would conclude that such a punishment does *not* fit the crime.
Oh lord of course you somehow found a way to make this a commentary on the world we live in and how it's too PC. Y'all are absolutely cooked. Grow up and realize there are repercussions for your actions.

Maybe the case, but in the wider picture he's lucky that there's no 25 year old Nadal or Djokovic taking Slams off him in the first place.

Same exact point as what I posted. The operative word is "may." There was no rule that he had to be defaulted. The officials used their judgement, and their judgement completely failed.

It didn't fail. Djokovic's action caused bodily harm. Even if you think that that was insignificant, that is your (unqualified) judgement.

At the time I offered anyone doubting how painful that can be to repeat the situation and report back, including to you. You evaded the suggestion.

Clearly I meant in this case and not intent never matters come on people.......

Even in this case, it matters. Novak would have been suspended (in the very least) if he hit that line lady intentionally.

As I said I’d far rather someone intentionally not hurt me at my job than someone unintentionally hurting me. Do you agree?

Yes, I agree with that obviously and that Novak is to blame for having such an emotional outburst on court.

I'm just saying that (in my opinion) Novak's USO DQ was still somewhat of a judgement call, not a black and white situation.

I actually tested it and it didn't hurt at all.

i dont agree with his default either but im sure that hurt plenty

Nope, I actually did it twice because I thought maybe the first time the impact wasn't direct enough and it was nothing lol

Let's try again: put your fingers on the side of your trachea, just at the base of it where the throat enters the body. Press slightly and pull suddenly sideways.

There will be a choking sensation, pain, and coughing. Now, imagine that situation happening with a mask on your face and without expecting it.

So, don't lie to me. Anyone reading here can make that experiment and will confirm what I am saying. It is human biology.

Disclaimer: Do it at your own responsibility. It is unpleasant sensation and it can lead to choking and other unwanted reactions.

Sorry, already tested what happened and it's nothing, despite Judi Dench's performance.

Wimbledon was not a guarantee either. It wasn't meant for Djokovic to succeed this season. Something would have happened there too.

Karma is what happened to Djokovic. Years of gamesmanship and bad behavior caught up with him.

That's actually a reasonable assertion. We reap what we sow. However I would rather see legacies and titles decided on the tennis court, not over a walkie talkie.

How can anyone still say the DQ was unfair? Sorry tennis is not basketball and hopefully will never become. Who can be guilty for hitting the judge besides the person hitting?

RG and ATP finals provided him a fair go afterwards and he came up short there too. I just don't think it was in the cards for him. Even the incident at USO was almost like it was guided by a higher power hitting the lines lady in the worst possible spot on her body.

as for the DQ, i understand why he got DQ'd, and im not sure if it's the rule that that has to automatically happen in that situation but i'm happy to allow that for the sake of argument

i just think that it makes more sense if he just got docked a game and/or fined, since sending him packing ruins everyone's day, damages the tournament, and doesn't help to heal the ballperson's injury anyway.

for me it's also that he clearly didn't mean to do it. yeah he shouldn't have hit the ball, but that job basically has in the description that you can and will get hammered by flying projectiles and if it doesn't then it should

“Unfairly lost his chance”. Yeah right. Maybe don’t smack balls at people and you won’t be booted from the tournament. Sure I feel for Djokovic about Wimbledon but the US Open was his own fault. Reckless and he’d been playing with fire for quite a while with where he hits balls.
Not learnt his lesson as he whacked a ball yesterday into stands.
Been a bad year for him.

No tears for Djoker here. He's worth 100 million bucks.

Almost makes you respect Youzhny for his unconvential way of venting anger by hitting himself. Nobody to hurt and blame but yourself. Don't bash a ball into the stands or near people. So much stupidity.

Off season is not even started and Djokovic DQ is being dug up.

Of course intent matters, lol (it just isn't always crucial, depending on the consequences of a specific action). The whole situation with Novak was still within the realm of a judgement call, it wasn't as clear cut as people portray it.

Shapovalov put a guy in the hospital who had to undergo surgery, it was a more severe case.

That penalty was too much excessive for unintentional hit. It didn't even hurt Grandma.

What I am suspicious about is who the line umpire tends to support and if that played a part. I checked her Insta and noticed she follows all the Big 3. However, she followed Federer considerably earlier than Djokovic, Nadal. I am just pointing this out, not jumping to any conclusions.

Federers, Nadals and Djokovics, if you will, don't grow on trees. This group of younger players is starting to find their way, but they have been blocked as was "Lost Gen" by the Open Era GOATs.

In the privacy of his own hotel room as we all do.

Intent doesn’t matter in this instance.
When in actual fact intent was the only thing that mattered and was the determining cause in the default. Read the rule book:

For the purposes of this Rule, abuse of balls is defined as intentionally hitting a ball out of the enclosure of the court.

That is not true. When a player loses in R1/R2/R3 in a Major that is not because he was "blocked by "the OE GOATs"".

It is because he has significant problems in his game.

It's completely obvious. He is automatically the Wimbledon favorite by virtue of being 2x defending champion and lost his chance there and unfairly lost his chance at USO where he was the titanic favorite. The over-under on slams lost for Djokovic is like 1.5.

And he very likely would already be the weeks at number one record holder as well were it not for the pandemic.

Now he enters 2021 still without the weeks record and set to face his toughest competition in years (it feels like) at AO, still stuck at 17 slams. AND the AO may not even be held, or it might be moved to a venue with a center court that isn't as favorable for Djokovic's game.

You've got to play the ball where it lies - there's no crying in tennis and no asterisks in the record book, but I have no problem admitting that Djokovic couldn't have been screwed harder this season lol
It’s more than obvious that this is a divine punishment for negating Federer Wim 19 coming back from 2 CPs.

Eh sure, but that was a contest between two pros on court. Not something as global pandemic snatching away his shot at Wimbledon title all-together.
Point is he is lucky to have even won it last year. So not winning it this year evens things out.

Wimbledon not being played was terrible for him, no doubt. He would have been a big favorite there. He also got screwed because he started the year in great form, 18-0 and 7-0 against the top 10. I think the tour stopping disrupted his momentum and he never found that form he had earlier in the year again imo.
