Gamma T-7...my Lighter & Larger POG Mid!!!

After a five year (or longer), 84 demo racquets (or more), search for a lighter and slightly larger Prince Original Graphite Mid racquet, the racquet has finally been found.

It is the Gamma T-7!!!

11.4 ounces, 6.5 pts HL, 100 sq in, 100% graphite.

I'm currently demoing this racquet for the second time (string broke on a racquet I was demoing 2 weeks ago so when they sent me that one again I asked them to send me this one for the second time).

Fantastic feel to this racquet. It truly does feel like the graphite used in the POG was used in this one as well. Amazing flex (although it doesn't feel as flexy as the 57) that allows you to truly feel the ball dwell on the strings. It's hard to describe but it's almost the feeling that when you swing hard you can actually feel the ball flattening into the string bed and having it release with a 'whoosh'...like when they show a pro hitting the ball on super slow motion. The softer feel leads to a large feeling sweetspot with deadspots almost non existent (maybe at the very tip of the frame).

The power level is perfect...allows you to swing out and have the ball land deep in the court. Some racquets, when you swing hard, the extra effort just doesn't translate into the pace you would expect...not so with the T-7. If you make a powerful swing then you are rewarded with the pace. What's amazing though is that it's pace with plenty of control. It also has enough power to get you out of trouble and hit an offensive ball from a defensive position. Something that seems to be rare (at least for my game) with other 'players' racquets. I'm working on a new serve so the pop on the serve isn't there quite yet but excellent control.

Loved the spin potential (both slice and topspin) with this racquet...heavy topspin available on demand and slice stays extremely low with good pace. Wide open string pattern gives you all the spin you want. Just coming off double hernia surgery I haven't put 100% into my serve yet (fearful of stretching the surgery area too much) but it seems like with a big swing you'll get huge kick on the serve. Pop on serve was easier to come by than the other racquets I've been demoing recently.

Control is spot on when you're not too lazy to get your feet in position (after a 7 month lay off I've found my self being much too lazy right now). Cross court angles very easy with a flick of the wrist (and power with the shot as well) and down the line shots were pretty simple and with the head lightness of the racquet somewhat easy to disguise. Depth control was excellent...most balls traveled deep into the court.

Maneuverability is excellent (313 rating is probably right; with rubber band and one overgrip the demo measured around 6.5 points head light) and stability of the racquet never seems to suffer because of the weight or balance. It's maneuverability made sharp angles easy...something I've had problems with in the past with heavier racquets (especially off the forehand side).

I love racquets that allow me to pick the ball up on the rise and hit the ball deep without a fear of them flying on me. Something I've been missing with a lot of the racquets I've tried in the past. Easy to flatten the ball out from the midcourt to put the ball away.

I'm just amazed at the feel of this racquet, the control, the available power, and the spin potential. Just INCREDIBLE!!!

(and since orange is my favorite color, love the looks as well)

This is exactly how I feel about the Gamma Tour 330X. Have you tried that yet? It's slightly more substantial than the T-7 and a little more head-light....but has the same great feel that you're describing. You might want to demo it just to make sure you wouldn't prefer it to the T-7.

Then again, it sounds like you're happy, so maybe just ignore what I'm saying and go enjoy the T-7!

This doesn't mean you're going to stop demoing frames does it?

You've been looking for a replacement for your POG since I first signed on to TW way back in the days of the old boards. I'm glad you finally found something that works but hearing you post about all your demoing adventures has kind of become a TW message boards staple for me lol. It's kind of like tradition now.

I haven't tried the 330X...had it on one of my possible demo lists a while back but for some reason it didn't make the final four. Thanks...I'm going to hang onto the demo as long as they will let me :).

I'm sad to say that it probably does...I'll probably start having withdrawal symptoms within 3 weeks though .

hey triple, can you compare it to the rdis 100 mp..I have a reference there since I demoed that one. What is the grip shape like? Just curious. Glad you found what you were looking for.

TripleB, I hope this stick is truly the one for you. I've always enjoyed your posts and enthusiasm as you discovered a new stick you enjoyed, because it mirrored my own attempts to find the perfect stick for my game.

As luck would have it, the frame I'm currently enamored with is none other than the POG mid. The 4-stripe version is truly unique, with it's manageable swingweight but terrific plowthrough.

Best of luck with the Gamma...

Thanks...I truly believe this is the one. After years of looking for a lighter POG mid I now believe the wide open string pattern and the feel of graphite were the two elements I needed (the T-7 has both).

Good luck with the POG 4 stripe...there is a definite difference between the 4 stripes and the new POGs. I became used to the feel of the newer models but it took a long time for me to officially make the switch from the older models to the newer ones.

Enjoy them...I did for a looooooooooooooooong time!!!

It's tough to comment on the grip because the Gamma original grip had been replaced with a Wilson K-Grip replacement grip on the demo I have. It seems like the Gamma grip runs larger than the Yonex grips and a little more square feeling.

The RDiS has a more plow through feeling, slightly better touch, and overall more comfort. I would say stability and control is equal with both. I give the edge to the T-7 in all other areas: topspin, slice, power, ease of playing with, maneuverability, serves, returns, groundstrokes, and volleys.

Thanks...as mentioned above, I truly believe this is the racquet I've been looking for going on 6 or 7 years now.

Thanks for this! Especially with all the rumours of the POGs going away (any truth to them? anyone?), you have performed sterling service to all of tenniskind.

Oh well they call it mid plus, wahat does it volley like?

The T-7 is excellent at net.

Perfect amount of put away power at net...which was a bit suprising considering the 57 flex and it's supposed to be the 'lowest powered racquet in the Gamma line up'. As mentioned above the touch isn't quite as good as the Yonex RDiS 100 MP or the Yonex RDX-500 MP, but it may just be something I have to get used to. Haven't spent as much time at net as at the baseline but plan on getting in some doubles tonight so we'll see. Angled volleys are easy to come by because of the superb maneuverability and it feels rock solid at the net...huge feeling sweetspot.

Hope this helps!

I haven't heard the rumours of the POG going away but I would think that since there is a still a huge following for this racquet, Prince would be wise to keep it around for a while longer.

Thanks.

Somebody started a thread here on TW to the effect that the POGs were being dropped to promote the EXOs. This board is my only source for all such things, so I don't know the truth of it. I really like my POG (the new OS), and as you correctly say, it has one of the biggest followings around. Let's hope it stays.
