I don't have enough time to exercise. I work with kids at Star Ranch. I was wonder how i get back in shape in time to play tennis tournment in usta league. I was wonder why i get tired easily and I eat good healthy foods and a lot of water. The problem is that i get tired easily because i probably not running enough or out of shape. Any suggest?

drjam932... I had your same problems. I asked for help here, but no one seems to be interested in training and improving their athletic conditions: I had only a few answers and without a real, concrete help..

The only thing the two of you can do is make time to run and work out. You can't get in better shape without exercising.

You get tired easily because you're out of shape. You'll have to make the time. If you watch tv, cut it out completely and run during that time. Or do push-ups instead of reading books or whatever it is you like to do. Basically quit doing what you normally do in your off time and train instead. It's not always fun but it's all that will get you there.

good and valid point Venetian about TV . I always thought in terms of how long a half hour television show lasts. I can run 3 miles in about that time and always think "hey that wasn't such long time to exercise". use the practice wall also ; build up to real long rallies against it I like that also.

I know that if I want to be in better shape I have to train. What I don't know is how I have to train. Please don't say I have to run, do exercise and lift weights. I know that too..
I asked for a specific training schedule, divided for each day of the week, how much have I to run, in how much time, how much have I to recover and so on.. Something specific. No one here had a proper answer. But I know pros work with schedules

The reason nobody can give you an answer here is that a training schedule has to be specific for a given individual. It is very important to know

1. What kind of shape you are in now- stamina, strength, age, agility, body fat %

2. What specific goals are trying to accomplish in what time frame. General goals of just "trying to get into better shape" are hard to work toward.

3. How much time are willing to put into training every day and what kind of resources you have access to.

Somebody can give you their training schedule but it won't mean very much to you. There is a huge difference between a 40 year old, overweight guy out of shape guy just trying to stay out on the courts for 2 hours versus a 17 year old nationally ranked junior in terms of their fitness regiments.

Yes, the best thing you can probably do would be to visit a gym and pay a personal trainer just to find out what you need to do to get in whatever shape you want to be in.

Watch out though with the personal trainers in commercial gyms out there: their quality varies a lot and unfortunately many of them just get paid to spot people and be friends during the training session, offering little quality advice and sometimes plain wrong advice. I heard a story about a guy who was deadlifting in one of those "fitness" gyms and a personal trainer came up to him with a really worried look and said "Hey watch out you're squatting with really poor form there" LOL!!!

Panatta, why are you so desperate for a workout routine? There are so many you can find on specialized fitness sites... You might be able to get some advice from this discussion board but if you're that serious about your training you should go and read some of the thousands of pages of free info that can be found on the internet. Goober is also right, it's hard to devise a routine without specific goals.

Maybe because I didn't find all I wanted. It's true on the internet we can find a lot about fitness, but I can't believe we cannot find a training schedule specific for tennis that we can adapt for our needs.Trust me.. I didn't find anything yet.

It's usually said there are two types of training, GPP (General Physical Preparedness) which you need to have a good fitness base, and SPP or SSP, can't remember, which is specific to your sport... So ideally for tennis you want both. The SPP would probably involve drills, service practice, practice matches, work on footwork technique, etc etc. You'd need a coach I guess, or a really dedicated practice partner to make it work. For GPP, I can't recommend enough the site www.crossfit.com, which is by far the best GPP program I've seen out there. Basically those guys' sport is fitness: they specialize in not specializing (which is the essence of GPP).
