Little things that annoy me - tennis edition

All right, this is a weird one. But it does bug me. Why don't players shake hands properly anymore.

Handshake.

Commentators bringing up Gasquet being on the cover of that French magazine as a kid literally every match I've ever seen him play (prob 50 times). They can't go one match without mention of it.

Commentators inability to see a singles player hit a good volley without attributing it to the fact that they won a doubles tournament X years ago. All commentators are under the impression that it is impossible to hit a clean volley in singles without having doubles success, even if it was 20 years ago.

The ATP website referring to any player under 22 who wins a couple of matches as a "#nextgen star." It's looking a bit desperate....surely a star will emerge eventually.
Says a lot about the current state of tennis that the ATP has been driven to this point of desperation

When players bounce the ball forever before a point. It was so hard to get through a Nadal-Djokovic match back in the day. At least now Djokovic has dropped his bounce count to about 6 or 7 instead of 20.

Nadal's routine still eats up his allotment of time just sitting at the baseline before each point. I won't get into that...

At least they overcompensate for the unnecessarily distant bro-grip with intimacy. One will now frequently witness loving caresses and near lip-lock at the net. All is not lost.

Doubles players always slapping each other's hands after a point has been played, win or lose. Who started that caper? o_O

Even worse, the whispering is definately useless and annoying. They could say some morse codes in a low frequency and I doubt very much the other team will understand lol.

American commentators mentioning how Jack Sock's forehand produces more topspin RPM than Nadal's.

Also, any word that comes out of Mary Carillo's mouth.

+1 about Mary Gorilla. Jimmy Arias really bothers me as well.

As for Sock vs Nadal RPMs, I was under the impression they were about the same.

Haha, I actually like Arias. He sounds like he's drunk when he's commentating so my wife and I always joke about what kind of alcohol he might be sipping as he's working the match (or how many drinks in he is). There's a Scot that he works with pretty often whose name escapes me but I think they make a good team.

As far as the RPMs go, I think you're correct. However, there was some tournament at some point where hawkeye measured Jack's FH as being higher and they jumped on it. Every time they bring it up it seems like he ends up hitting some bizarro neutral ball unforced error within 30 seconds.

Haha yeah I saw that and thought even the ATP are concerned about how long the "Old Guard" have managed to maintain their dominance over the tour!!
