Lump between thumb and index finger *w/ pictures*

OK so about 3-4 weeks ago I was doing some pushups and felt a little tweak in my right hand as I was pushing myself the from the ground up. Well I thought it would go away overnight and it didn't, I played tennis the following morning and i felt the pain.

I only feel the pain on the forehand. I'm a solid 5.0, one handed backhand, pretty fast serve, and the only time I feel a little bit of pain is on the forehand side, nowhere else.

So I took about 4-5 days off, no meds, felt it again, kept doing the same thing over again, taking 4-5 days off and trying to play but the pain continued, that was my mistake.

Last week I couldn't see my primary doc so I went to urgent care and the doc there played around with my hand and said 'yeah i don't think it's broken, my guess is tendonitis, stay away from weights and tennis for 2 weeks' so she gave me some anti inflammatory meds and and ace bandage.

I wasn't aware I could get tendonitis there, I thought it was just some kind of strain or maybe even a hairline fracture, but she said X rays not necessary.

It's been 1 week and I don't see the swelling going down, it doesn't hurt on regular use as it never did, only in tennis and pushups but i have not done those in 2 weeks now, could this be tendonitis or should i try to see my regular doc?

Anyone ever have this? If so what did you do? Or any thoughts? thanks

I pulled the muscle between the thumb and index finger only one time before. It only happened to me when I either griped the racquet way too hard for an extended amount, usually when I'm really dehydrated I cramp up pretty badly. It took about a week for it to stop swelling, shouldn't worry too much. Just be glad you don't have the same bulging on your calf, I could barely walk for an entire week.

Research healing time for tendons. 4-5 days or 2 weeks away from stressful activity sounds much too short according to what I have found. You are probably stressing it with your tennis with the same forces that caused the injury.

well i took two weeks off like the urgent care doc recommended, felt the pain after the 2nd hr of hitting my first time out after two weeks

i took two more weeks off after i tried to get back to hitting, then i went back to my primary care doc and we did some X rays, nothing cracked or broken or fractured, so he believes it's a sprained ligament and recommended two more weeks off of tennis and weights

anyone sprain a ligament in their hand before? how long did it take to recover? doc is sure it wasn't a tear but i guess if the pain continues after a total of 4 consecutive weeks of no tennis then i'll have to do an MRI

When you return, make your first hitting session short - like 20 munutes.

If the area feels fine, lengthen each session by ten minutes until you are back to your usual session lengths.

Doing too much too soon will lead to the frustrating situation of an early recurrence and more time off from tennis.

Your nurse needs to go back to Med school. You are most definitely going to die. I have been diagnosed with the same lethal medical condition as you. I am sorry to bring you this sad piece of news. Hopefully you will enjoy the remaining 50+ years you still have ahead of you.

I have the same condition like yours, and I want to know have you ever find out what happen and what it is?

I did several researches, and it looks like metabolic muscle disorder.

Please let me know if you have any idea.

Thanks,

I'm a lot thinner than you, so the lump on both hands show a lot more and is more defined than yours.
Has been like that ever since I remember.
Diameter of a big quarter, thickness a close to 3/16".
My God, my skin is wrinkley compared to yours.

To me, you got the lump, as do I.
You must be right handed in tennis?
My lefty lump is bigger than my rightie lump.
But smaller than yours, of course. I"m weaker and smaller than you.

Yes, I am right-hand.

Did you ever find out what happen? Why did your hands have lump?

I am having MRI tomorrow, will see how it goes.

My lefty lump is longer than a 50 cent piece, and bigger than my right.
I'm a lefty tennis player.
There is no pain or sensitivity after poking and pushing on my lumps, so what ain't broke, I'm not going to fix.
I also have surfer's knee, that lump of hard cartilege on the front of my knees, and it sticks out about 1/2", and I haven't kneepaddled since 1965. The USArmy didn't want me in '68, but relented in '70 from those lumps.

Oh.....

I feel much better and now I know I am not alone.

My hands don't feel pain and the lumps are painless as well.

I type on computer most of the time and play tennis 2-3 days a week.

Those lumps are muscles. I believe they're called the 1st dorsal interosseus. Mine are huge. I asked a doc about them after concerned comments from family members. Big lumps are an indicator of virility and it essentially means you're a big stud. I have no empirical evidence to support that last statement, other than the facts of my own particular situation.

In my experience, this is completely true. The OP is becoming a man.

Update from my MRI result.

The lumps are big muscle, no fat, and doctor told me that the muscles are normal and there is nothing to worry about it.

My lumps are 100% muscle as well.

The only concern with the lumps is that women will swarm you (I've long suspected my lumps of emitting phermones) and alpha males in the vicinity may try to instigate fights.

This is really helpful. I have been facing the exact same issue on my right hand. My right hand is swollen similar to the pictures and feels like I have the lump. I showed it to a hand surgeon and they ran an x-ray and mentioned that no broken bones or any issues. They have now asked me to go ahead and get an MRI scheduled as the doctor isn't sure what it is. But too me this looks like exactly in the picture shown here, so any recommendations, I am freaking out.

Well if theres pain, I imagine it worth getting checked out. But otherwise, its just a muscle. That much is obvious if you ever try flexing your thumb and index finger in a C shape, it becomes more defined and obvious. You could maybe pull a tendon in that arrea, but other than that if its getting bigger, its probably just because youve been using it. Unless you guys are talking about actual fluid build up.

There's nothing wrong with you. You have man lumps. Flex those puppies with pride whenever possible. Will bring girls to the yard.
