Luxilon String Playtest 2011

Anyone have any background on this string and what tension to string this? I've ranged from 48-55 lbs depending on the elasticity of the poly I'm using. I'd like to avoid the "I may have had a better review if I'd strung higher/lower" caveat in my review.

Just got mine today, so happy as its my first test haha. A couple questions to help with my test. Is their a deadline to string and test it out by? And for someone who has strung it already would you consider it stiff or soft so I can use an appropriate tension?
Thanks,
Chase

got mine today, it's the gold colored sample. I've been hybriding polys and I think I'll do that with this as well. That'll give me two shots at getting the tension right.

Just got the Gold colored one! People who are stringing a hybrid with this in the mains can you give me some tension tips? I usually string for a soft poly (RPM, Black Widow) at 58. Any tips for this one?

Green today in Missouri. I'll string it up this weekend.

I was going to review it during the league match this weekend but i haven't got mine yet. Best time to review a string is in a actual match situation.

I got mine today, and I live in Cali... At first I was confused because the envelope that it came in said "Wilson", and I looked at the bag and it said "LXN", so I'm pretty sure it's LXN. Full in depth review coming shortly (I just restrung my racket 2 hours before the news strings came in LOL)

I just got the green test string in the mail for my wife... So after I string them both up we'll go out and hit and I'll be able to compare the two also

Stringing: Definitely an atypical Luxilon offering. This strung up almost as easily as a WeissCANNON or MSV poly. Its profile may have something to do with it, but it has a strange feeling even going through the grommets. It's like a rifled barrel vs. smooth bore. This stuff has zero resistance whatsoever going through grommet holes. For something that trivial it means it's pretty noticeable if I bother to mention it. While doing the crosses, they simply glide across one another. No friction at all. Knots were super easy, and simply typical left fingertip soreness from weaving polyester. Stringing this stuff makes Adrenaline look like PSGD and ALU Rough would be Maxim Touch in comparison. Honestly, it simply wove like an easy poly. Did not feel stiff in the hand, typical coil memory, but zero problems in untangling as it simply didn't get tangled. In my experience, that is not the Luxilon way. Strung at 47/47.

Wilson owns LXN :p

Just strung up the mains of the lux green string. Pretty bad coil memory and knots suck to tie, but. crosses seem like they won't be too bad as the string seems to be a semi soft poly

I tried it out in my pure storm strung at 53. I can't give a full review since I only used it for a light warm up on groundstrokes and not much else since it wasn't doing much for me. From what I felt it was reasonably comfortable, but there was nothing spectacular about it. Everything felt "okay," nothing spectacular. I then switched to my pure storm strung with tour bite at 49 and it felt like everything was amplified: spin, pop, control. I'm a 4.5 if that matters.

so you felt like tourbite gave you better playability ?

Hey PV, can I conclude from this that the string is pretty elastic? ie, the string stretches quite a bit (for a poly) when pulling tension.

No, not necessarily. Some polys are simply softer in the hand when stringing, but are still stiff. Only the really thin gauge polys tend to appear super elastic when tensioned. My comments only said that it's very easy to string and that its profile appears to lower friction while stringing. I'll be hitting with it this evening, so who knows if that'll hold. Regardless, It still wasn't as easy as something from WeissCANNON or MSV (the two companies that I feel make the easiest stringing polys).

Anyone receive instructions via email? I have not, and there was nothing in the envelope other than the surveymonkey address sticker. Mainly wondering when the deadline is to report on my test.

My green string is not shaped like PV's yellow. Minimal stretch during stringing.

How much did it stretch during stringing as compared to other polys?

The yellow poly was very easy to string! Used 48/52 for mains/crosses. As others have said, the string slides through the grommets smoothly. There is very little friction when stringing the crosses.

Played with it for 90 minutes last night.

Couple of things I noticed upon first hit:

1) The ball lands fairly short in the court on topspin shots. This is in comparison to the dunlop black widow 17 which I normally use at 54/52 which offers more depth.

2) On flat shots the strings offer a lot of power. I hit blistering ground strokes off both sides. Nice, controlled aggression.

3) Slice shots stayed very low for me. Skipped through the court well. Helped me win the practice match.

4) My serve/volleys are weaknesses, and continued to be weaknesses with this string as one would expect (technique issue). Got good pace on first serves, even if I had trouble getting it in the box. Wont comment on volleys.

Overall, the strings were pretty good for me. Not as much spin potential as the dunlop black widow, but equal to greater power. The feel of the strings got better as the 90 minutes passed, so I'm curious to see what happens to the ball as more time elapses.

Will comment on tension loss with more play.
