YULitle, you must've known this was coming. First off, I wanna say thanks for the help in the stringing section, your vids are great and i've learned so much so quickly.

Now, when did you start playing tennis and when did you start stringing racquets and what not?

Lol YUlitle is being targeted.
All I know is he used to work at this major tennis shop down in texas that was the best. It had 2 TF7000 and a Babolat RDC. Even an Indoor tennis court where you could grab a demo and hit with it for a little bit.

I started playing tennis in high school. I was one of those kids no one likes that just hits around, doesn't play matches and goofs off with friends. We weren't disruptive, we played doubles or yielded the court when their were a lot of people wanting to play. But, we did like to have fun. I wasn't very good. I'm still not very good. In fact, the only hitting partner I've found in town so far (with free time) is a 3.5 and she beats me every time. :( But, I think it's more fun that way. I wouldn't get better playing someone that I always beat.

I started stringing racquets when I was a freshman in college (about 5 years ago.) I was self taught initially, but received help from a gentleman named Gaines Hillix in GA. I've been and MRT for almost a year now. My first machine was a Neos 1000 (GSmith,) then I went to a Star 5(PGATourSuperstore,) and then a TF7000(PGATSS.) I currently string on a borrowed Gamma ES II+.

What machine would you drop what you're doing right now for? And yes, YULitle is being targeted. Jo11y needed a break, but i think Jo11y likes the questions.

I would drop what I was doing for a Star 5. Best machine I've ever used. Possibly best I'll ever used. I'd love to try the Equinox though.

YUlitle, the Equinox is out of production. They had a problem with meltdowns of the electrical components.

It seems you love stringing. Is this true and how come?

I absolutely love stringing. It is my favorite thing. It is my life.

What makes stringing great is that it is related to math, which is awesome.
It has set rules and methods that relate directly to physics, also awesome.
It involves using your hands: I love fixing things. I love to build things too. When I moved to the apartment that I currently live in, I had fun doing things like, fix the broken COAX jack on the wall, installing speakers and lights in the bathroom (speakers for music, and lights because the stupid bathroom is rigged so that the fan is on whenever the lights are on) and random such things. When I lived in ATL, I owned a Mazda MX6 that had problems and I got to fix those. It was great. All together, I changed it's clutch, drive axles, starter, brakes, rotors, distributor cap and various other maintenance items (like spark plugs, etc.) So, I just love fixing things. Especially when it involves using my hands.

Yeah, they are working on fixing the problem and are trying to bring it back as soon as possible.

Mansewerz, can you ask YULitle why I'm so little?

You can ask too. I"m not the only one that has that power. But yea, YU, can you answer his question?

And does no one else want to know the real YULitle?

Hey YUlitle, have fun... I still have 2 months of school left... :(

x2. At least it's spring and tennis season though. However, I got no more full days off until memorial day excluding weekends.

Yes, we do .... didn't see this thread.
But I have no stringing questions.

YuLitle, what does your username mean. Slice seems to have understood it, i googled but could make no sense.

Also, which pros do you like ?

YuLitle,

What's your favorite natural gut and Why?

Well, I've only used VS 16/17 and Pacific Tough Gut. Both felt great, but Tough Gut was easier to string, so I like that I guess.

I had to become a stringer quickly because they expected me to. So, when we got the machine in, I studied it's manual to learn how to mount and pull tension, easy enough. then I poured over this racquet that I had. I traced where the strings went and basically had to discover the pattern. I got that part down, and was able to get new strings into the racquet exactly like they were in there before, but I didn't have the method down right. At that point we got the book "Racquet Service Techniques" from the USRSA. I took that home that night and read it front to back TWICE. And that's all it took. I figured out what I was doing wrong, made some adjustments, and I knew how to string. It took me a little while to perfect my weaving and string placement technique, but at least I looked like I knew what I was doing at that point. :D From then on I took every opportunity I could get to watch people string and learn from other stringers. I've worked with or near very competent stringers and I've learned a lot. But, most of what I know comes from that book and these online forums.

Yes, we do .... didn't see this thread.

YULitle = "Why you little" - Homer Simpson
I've had this avatar since I was 12ish. I use it for almost everything (notice: Youtube=YULitle, myminicity=YULitle, email=YULitle, etc...) It's just become my online name, in a way.

I am a fan of Federer. He's a good guy, and obviously a good player. I also like watching Baghdatis, Monfils and Djokovic.

Thanks, I guessed that, but your username has one "t" only, so I got confused. Anyway, I didn't know about Homer Simpson.

iirc, I asked you a question about books on the Books and You thread. What good astronomy books have you read in the last few years.

I have only read a few that I can follow: Brief History of Time, The Universe in a Nutshell, The Cosmic Code and various other books about more than just astronomy (eg. A short history of nearly everything.)

For someone who is just starting to string/learning. Does it make sense to drop the 110 beans down on USRSA membership? or will your videos suffice? :)

also is that USRSA 110 beans a year? Seems a little stiff if thats the case.

In the US it's $109. I think it is worth it. You get the Digest, Racquet Service Techniques and Vendor contacts. Plus you get RSi magazine. If you run a tennis shop or stringing service, it's a must. They list you on their stringer database that is searchable online by anyone. I plan on getting a personal membership once I need to re-up my MRT status.

what a better person to target. our resident stringer guru! (i think anyways) you definitely inspire the stringer in me, and your videos on youtube are priceless. i do have a strining guestion, haha

i want to get a machine in the future, and i am still debating this critera-constant pull or not. i originally wanted to get a crank as a compromise between expensive (elec) and cheap(dropweight). but i feel as if constant pull is better in terms of getting good string jobs. what is your opinion?

(just for reference i know i want linear gripper and fixed clamps no matter which machine i get).

I think the decision to go from DW to crank is all about volume and time. If you are only stringing your racquets, and you only have 2-3 racquets, a DW should be more than enough. If you plan to string for others at a rate of 7+ a week, you may want to jump up to the crank.

However, time is a crucial factor as well. If you only string for yourself, but have very little time to devote to stringing, a crank might be right, in spite of the limited volume. If you string for others, but have all the time in the world, a drop-weight may be sufficient.

Also, keep in mind that just because you string your racquet once a week now, doesn't mean you will string it once a week when you have a machine of your own. Stringing is addictive. You will more than likely find yourself, initially, cutting strings out before you normally would.

Also, keep in mind that you may find that you like stringing enough to string for other people, in spite of initial feelings against the idea. If you find that you wish to string more, but don't have the time to give to a drop-weight, you may regret not getting a crank.

All in all, it's a personal decision. The quality of string job can be just as high with either type of machine, so it's down to, like I said earlier, volume and time. Oh, and money plays a factor, of course. But that needs no explaining.

I heart that too. And, I heard it will be $2k, not $2.5k. :D Might be worth looking at over the Star 5. ;)

No more questions?

wow. thanks for the response:)

yea i do plan on just doing my own, but i have read on here a lot of people end up doing it for others once they get a machine. in which case a crank is better as you point out. so...constant pull vs. lock out doesnt matter in your opinion then. its all about consistency i take it? what about electric? would the cost justify it? or do you think a cheaper model can just be as effective/reliable?

i dont see myself stringing over 1x a month, but of course i am without machine now :p

thanks so much.

YULitle,
Who are your favorite movie stars (male and female) ?

Could you tell us some movies you really liked (off the top of your head) - could be recent or even old/childhood.

This may be as simple as 2 + 2 but I want to make sure I'm doing the math right!

Zhou said you worked at a store here in N Texas with an indoor tennis court then you answered him that you worked at the PGATSS. So does the PGATSS in Dallas have an indoor court, or just a half court with a wall?

All PGATSS stores, except one in Phoenix, have one full size indoor tennis court, with varying degrees of accommodations.

I am a sucker for a post-apocalyptic movie. I saw "I am Legend" recently and I loved it. My favorite movies, that I can think of right now

A.I.
Full Metal Jacket
War of the Worlds (yes, the Tom Cruise one. Don't hate me. :))
Children of Men
The Fountain

That's all I can think of ATM for movies.
I don't really follow any one movie star. When I was a kid, I'd see anything that had Jim Carey in it. But now, I really just try to watch more films that don't look cookie cutter. Living where I do now, it's much harder to do this. But, I have netflix, so that should help. I guess I would see anything with Scarlett Johansson in it. :D
