Matching Racquets

In my attempt to match my 2 95s', I am running into a problem due to one being a little heavier in stock form.

#1 is 338.5g, 8.2 pts. HL 315 SW
#2 is 344g, 8 pts. HL 317 SW

Now, I can obviously add weight to #1 at the balance point to bring them up to spec, but I somewhat like the lighter feeling stick. I know 5.5g isn't a whole lot, but I could tell the difference on the court.

So, should I go the route of matching weight vs. balance? I could get #2 within 3.5g, but the balance would be closer to 7.8 compared to 8.2.

I may go the route of the 342.5g with the 7.8HL as I could match them perfectly and just learn to play with both.

I am not going to suggest exact setups as you can use the TW customization tools to get help there but I would make balance and SW the top 2 priorities. Then, if you can get static weight within say 3.5 g or less, you should be good to go in my opinion. If you get near exact matches on SW and balance, then a 3.5 g difference in static weight means the rackets are roughly 99% the same which is damn good in my opinion. I have used this approach on my rackets for last 3 years.

Since #2 is heavier in static weight and swingweight, your only choice for matching is to match #1 to #2. It appears that you have added lead under the bumper per your signature. Since you know that you like the spec of #1, I would remove the lead under the bumper of #2. Obviously this will require cutting strings and probably needing to replace the bumper. You would then need to get the specs without the lead and use the TW calculator to match to #1. This should be very doable if lead was added under the bumper to #2. Hope this makes sense!

I ended up with my #2 racquet at 342.5g and 8 pts. HL. So, only a 3.5g and a 315 and 317 difference on swingweight and the balance is the same on both.

I've only added lead to the handle and poster putty under the cap, nothing to the frame itself. I haven't hit with it yet, but did yesterday when #2 was at 344g.

The racquets feel pretty similar just swinging them, so we will see on the court. Pretty close matching without being exactly the same.

According the the OP's signature there are two overgrips, lead in the handle and under the bumper (cap.) Possibilities are endless, I feel he has room to easily take weight off either end of either of the rackets.

I did something very similar to what you have done and they felt great to me, they both match as you described in your scenario, although I added 5 gm of BlueStik into the butt cap. and 3 gm higher up the handle to match them.

I prefer the 2 overgrips for the feel, compared to a replacement grip with one overgrip. I could remove 1 and have them match more precisely, but I would rather keep the grips the same.

I have no weight on the frame at all, only on the handles and in the buttcap, so the only way to match them exactly is to bring racquet #1 up to the weight of racquet #2. The handles are both full of foam so I cannot add weight inside of the handles.

I prefer the racquets to be as close to 8 pts HL as possible. If I were to move the lead on the handle of racquet #1 higher up, I would disrupt the balance. 3.5g isn't all that off, we will see how it plays.

If you have any suggestions on matching them closer, I would appreciate any feedback.

Thank you.
