Mayami strings

I've also used Tour Hex as the cross with a bunch of poly mains such as Solinco Barb Wire, Volkl Cyclone, Kirschbaum Max Power, and Solinco Tour Bite. I've actually liked it with pretty much all of them. I tended to like using it with 16g mains. Having Tour Hex in the crosses seemed to provide a bit more comfort, consistency, and power than playing with full-bed tour hex, but I liked the feel better than full bed of any of the poly strings individually. Just an opinion. I'm still trying out more permutations.

It isn't a smooth poly, but it seems to work well as a cross still.

Strang the Diadem Elevate with Mayami Machete x Tour Hex. I cut the Machete set in half. When I pulled the 4th main, Machete broke. First time ever seen a string break on my drop weight machine. Don't know what happened. I used the other half of Machete. Very sharp edged. I'll let you know my first impressions. I was between Big Spin x Tour Hex, but went with Machete first, since there rarely any reviews about it.

Machete broke. First time ever seen a string break on my drop weight machine.

Where was the break? Near or in the grommets? I remember trying to string FireWire three times at 80# and it snapped each time on the second to last cross. On the fourth try dropped the tension to 75# and made it through with no further issues.

It broke when I was pulling the 4th right main outside the frame, near the drop weight gripper. I suspect I should loosen the gripper up a bit, before stringing... I'm hitting with it today.

A serious issue has come up with using Machete in the mains. A 4-ball-can will last me 1.5 hours at most. Takes the life out of the tennis balls and will bankrupt me. I will definitely record some hitting next time, because I really enjoy hitting with the heaviest top-spin I've hit so far.

Very heavy court conditions today, a couple of hours after rain stopped I hit the court for a couple of hours. 1 hour hitting with Mayami Machete x Tour Hex. Winter is for improving in areas I need improvement, working mostly on hitting the cross-court forehands and backhands with high net clearence, keeping the ball in play as long as possible. Reduced my backhand slicing to focus on driving my 5-month-old 2-handed backhand cross-court.

This Mayami setup works exceptionally well for top-spin hitting. That means, it goes No1 on my Top-10 list of favourite strings. Apart from the exceptional access to spin, with the Elevate V2 it has Power and nice touch at the net.

Clip is from cooling-down groundstrokes during the last half an hour.

Hi have a brand new reel I could sell you, especially if you’re based in Europe?
I'd like to try it, but not necessarily buy a reel immediately. Stockholm. But 12m has been unavailable for a long while I think. Same racquet too, v8 18x20, and I'm a bit worried Hitpro would be too soft for me and for the v8?

Tried this setup in 50lbs before and believe that 52lbs would work better. It is a bit too launchy at 50lbs.

However, on the blade V8 18x20 my favourite setup is:
Mains - Tecnifibre Razor Code White 1.25mm
Crosses - Head Velocity Natural 1.25mm
Tension - 48/51 lbs

Crispy, not too launchy. Some people hit with it and felt a bit underpowered though. If you'd like to know my level of play here's some videos. I have recently switched to the Percept 100D though.

OK thanks. I think I have both those strings also, might string it on one to try. But Velocity might make it too soft for me, it's a soft racquet already, and I'm not lacking in swing power to punch through poly

Yea if you don't have any arm/elbow/shoulder issues then absolutely go full bed.

I've had issues in the past before, so using velocity is more as a precautionary step.

I tried hit pro 1.30 fullbed and I couldn’t feel anything. I loved hit pro on my tc95 70ra but on the blade it was like hitting with a pillow! I think stiffer strings work better in the blade v8.

I’m not terribly far from you, I’m currently using this on my blade V8 18x20: lynx tour 1.25 22.5kg / velocity 1.35 24kg.
The only downside is velocity breaks in 4-5h. I have decided to restring crosses only the next time it breaks (which will be tonight).

I've heard a lot about Lynx Tour and considered it one of the alternatives before. What deters me from using Lynx Tour is how the string is heavier than its equivalent gauge. Also I kinda prefer the consistency of round strings :)

Glad I'm not one of those strong enough to break the Velocity perhaps the edges of Lynx Tour saw into the Velocity (well compared to round string it will saw more of course).

My thougths about the Machete x Tour Hex poly-poly hybrid on the non-affiliated clip I attach below.

After trying Tour Hex in full-bed, this was another very positive experience from Mayami. I also have Big Spin to try. Let me know if you'd be interested for my feedback about Big Spin in full-bed or hybrid with Tour Hex. All friends that I've sent Tour Hex sets to had positive words to say about it. I gave 2 more sets to another friend to try it too.

I have a reel of Big Spin here in CA (LA area); strung once. I have moved to multifilaments in mains and Big Spin isn't a fit for crosses.
It seems these are hard to get in US now. Throw me an offer if interested. I also have a reel of Ultra Cable.

The owner told me probably in 2 weeks.
Placed an order for a reel of Hepta Power on 30 Dec but haven't received any updates ever since.
Anyone else facing the same issue as me?

Also, still quite anxious waiting for Hit Pro to be restocked.

Guess if one decides to play on Mayami, just get the reel and restock well ahead of time.

Tried tour hex recently and decided to switch to it given the price (€59). Still waiting for it to restock and now the price has increased to €79 so I'm moving on. This is the fastest I've ever switched to and away from a string lol.

Hmm, at this price point - just pick what you prefer between Tour Hex and Genesis Hexonic Power.

Still an excellent price for this string and 59€ was on sale.
The original price some time ago has been around 109€ if i remember correctly.
So 79€ is still fine for such a string.

I d pay 120€ easily for Tour Hex. Its the only string that maintains its playability after 10 hour mark and doesnt spray. Solinco is the worst in that regard. They just have to restock faster.

Both BigSpin and Machete do the same for me - especially in a 16x19 you can basically throw away balls after an hour.
Extra fun if you are playing a tournament where balls should last 2-4 sets :D

I'll play with Big Spin (most probably with Tour Hex crosses) after 15th of January.

I play tennis sporadically this month for numerous reasons, but I will get back into regular action.

Yes, I agree 79 is not expensive at all. I am still in the process of trying out more polys (a combination of toroline, yonex, head, diadem, and oehms) though and just wanted Tour Hex as a temporary string of choice that I can keep on one racquet while going through the other strings on another racquet. Now that Tour Hex is out of stock and becoming more expensive I decided to just go with Caviar for that same purpose. It is more expensive, but feels a tad more consistent/responsive to me. To be fair though I strung each of them only once at different tension and the difference I felt could very well be due to the lower tension on the Tour Hex.

That's interesting. I found that Solinco Confidential stay playable for me more than any other strings and I think a lot of people had the same observation. It starts off 'dead' but stays consistent. The only reason I switched is I wanted something a bit more comfortable to protect my arm.

47/44 for me and I prefer Big Spin with Tour Hex.

I just did Tour hex mains and BHB7 crosses. @51# on EZone 98
I increased spin by about 50% for sure, also got power and comfort that I was missing with FB tour hex. I just hope it lasts at least 10 hours lol
Control is perfect
I love the control from Tour Hex, but I was getting a tingle in my arm from FB.
I'm trying to find the perfect cross for Tour hex.
So far tried this and Cream
Cream felt controlled and muted, comfortable, but missing the spin I got with BHB7

Just as info, let me know your thoughts

Kirschbaum Proline Evolution could be an interesting cross. Somewhat like a round Tour Hex. I’ve never had arm issues with it.

TH in crosses and Big Spin in mains is mushy and great.

I have a Big Spin set and thinking about splitting it in half:

Play Big Spin x Tour Hex with the Elevate V2 at my usual 22-23kg tension to compare this to Machete x Tour Hex and Big Spin x Tour Hex at higher tension with the Diadem Nova FS100.

I've put some lead under both rackets' basegrips to make them more headlight (copying the Prince Tour 95 2015 balance).

I'm thinking of the unthinkable, stick to these 2 rackets for the whole 2024. I'm starting getting tired of changing rackets so often...

The Elevate V2 could be my match-option.

Time to see what's all the fuss about. While stringing Big Spin felt similar to the YTex Quadro Twist: SOFT - the "mushy" feel everyone's talking about.

I bet it will feel less responsive and powerful than Machete. I'm more curious to see how will be the flat hitting. Spin is gonna be there anyway.

Tour Hex back in stock; Hit Pro sold out. The pricing really bothers me though. Reels are now 99 euros. Going up from 69 to 99 euros..
Yes, I took notice too. I guess the 69€ was a discount, but I'd make sure the customer would see it's a discount from the 99€.

Still, 99€ for a reel of Tour Hex is pretty good. If I had to stick with 5 reels, Tour Hex would be one of them.

Wow. It was only a couple of months ago that they sent some passive/agressive email about dropping the price and keeping it there. But I guess the price change is par for the course.

Has anyone from the US ordered anything since they moved to only shipping from their base in Europe and did you have to pay any import fees?

Hit today, but it was with a beginner hitting partner, I'll play with anyone available, had forgotten my dampeners uptop of that!

I will most probably play again tomorrow or on Friday with an advanced hitting partner and share decent feedback.

From a few dozens of hard shots I hit finishing inside the baseline and fewer behind the baseline, in comparison to the Machete x Tour Hex hyrbid, this one seemed to have a lower launch angle, better control on flatter strokes and more dwell-time / less Power (maybe). We'll see next time.

GL! I just gave up on dampners, after many years of using them.
