Mayami strings

Yeah the end of June....yeesh, that hurts.

Here is what I got from Mayami :

Magic Twist 1.30 - instant intrigue here due to guage (I use PA19 and Ripstick - open pattern frames).
Hit Pro 1.25
Big spin 1.25
Hepta Power 1.24
Tour Hex 1.23

I think Ill start with the Tour Hex, although waiting over 3 months for the 1.28 is making me a bit sad.
have you tried the hepta power ? can you compare it to tour hex? :)

I tried the Hepta Power that I got in my sample pack and cut it out pretty early. Its in RPM Blast class of strings but in my experience it was rather boardy and lacked control. Definatley had some good pop, but had problems keeping it in. It's almost the exact opposite of Tour Hex which has outstanding control, decent feel and low powered. In my opinion there are other similar black strings out there they have better characteristics

Absolute perfection is finally available. Looking forward to hearing other's feedback. I found it to be one of the most durable multis I've played with so far.

It only comes in 1.25 if I’m not mistaken. I’d be surprised if it lasts more than 2h

Interestingly the syngut and nylon also come in 1.25 only.

4.5 singles player? Yeah, I'd be surprised by anything over 35 minutes. But for doubs specialists, seniors like myself, and 3.5/4.0 women that's a different story. Having demoed it in both 16x19 and 16x20 frames, it has lasted longer in the more closed pattern.

Got a ton of samples in today. Magic Twist, Tour Hex, Syn Gut, Nylon, and Multifilament. Thanks Mayami! I'm looking forward to Absolute Perfection the most because I've been playing with Multifilament the last few months.

Keep us informed as to how the multi plays and holds up.

FYI, they are having a big 40% off on their reels. I'm going to grab a reel of Tour Hex...might even grab two.

I have reels of Tour Hex, Big Spin and Magic Twist. The only one I'd like to get rid of is Magic Twist. I tried it as a cross with Big Spin and struggled big time with control. For the people that like Magic Twist, are you using it as mains, full bed or cross with a different string? I don't like the feeling of having wasting my money on it :)

Interesting. What did you string it at?

I have several players using it in a full bed in various racquets from Wilson Burns and Pro Staff and various Head frames, mostly MPs. I've used it as a cross with Mayami's Absolute Perfection and Tier One's Triump along with a couple of different flavors of natural gut. In both cases, the softer strings lasted three to four hours longer than with the softer strings in a full bed setup.

I've only tried it as a cross. Strung it 5 lbs lower than Big Spin (I believe 49/44). I read somewhere that it was good to string at least 5 lbs lower than the mains. I was playing with the regular Clash 100 and since then moved to the Clash 98. I've had elbow issues in the past which is why I moved to the Clash. I'm looking forward to the Blade V8 (based on the rumors.). Blade V6 CV was my racquet of choice before I hurt my elbow.

What should I try?

Were you hitting too long?

When I first tried out the combo, the mains were effectively 6# lower. Looking back in my notes I see that I strung it in a modified JET method essentially at 40/34 on a DW. I thought it was heavenly in one of my Pure Control frame.

Since you mentioned you had elbow problems, I would suggest trying Magic Twist as a cross with a multifilament like Mayami's Absolute Perfection or NXT. I think you will enjoy the control at the net with volleys and half volleys.
Elbow is fully recovered and I learned a lot about what caused it. I am now playing full bed poly (Big Spin/Ghost Wire) and stringing weekly. I recently tried Hyper G soft/GW and really enjoyed it. Loved the feel and control I got from it.
I have 4 reels (TH, BS, MT and Ghost Wire) at home. Can't justify buying more string at the moment. I did get a sample of Absolute Perfection so I'll try that with MT soon.
Thanks!

I just couldn't control my shots at all. I don't even know how to describe it but I had to cut it out immediately

have you tried the hepta power ? can you compare it to tour hex? :)

I have been trying the Big Spin for a week now and it is impressive. Spin potential is very very high, on slice backhands, almost too much spin ?? LOL, my slice bites and checks little too much now. But definitely massive spin potential. Power level is about average for a poly kind of similar to technifiber ice code or razor code level. But the Control department is where it falls short compared to top tier company strings like Luxilon and Babolat polys. Control isn't bad but just not top tier. I think if i get used to this string by playing with it for extended time, i may improve my control with time.

Overall solid spin oriented poly. Much better than i expected from Square shaped poly with sharp edges

Ye you are on a good path. With big spin your main control is from spin. If you think its too much you can pick more neutral string - tour hex that has a bit less spin but more control . Exactly what you are looking for. Its a string of a year i guess.

what about power ? does spin hex have good power ?

its still control oriented but comfortable. In terms of power I guess its somewhere around Alu Power, you need to unlock it. But the control and response from tour hex is more familiar while big spin is more unique.

I mean compared to Big spin ? compared to big spin, does tour hex have more or less power ? if you are comparing to alu power, that means it has alot of power, i always felt that alu power was pretty powerful poly

tour hex has most control in 1.25 group of shaped strings i tried so far. I think it has maybe a bit more power due to more linear response while big spin is a bit more up and down. Just try tour hex.... you will like it xd it's like improved head lynx tour.

Without a doubt, triangle-shaped strings produce the most RPMs. If a player needs to hit small targets on the court or needle threading is crucial to their game, then three-sided strings, especially in a full bed, are not going to work for them. It is not the material (poly) or shape of the string (triangle) that is the real issue. IMHO, it is the installation - ensuring that all the apexes are facing upward evenly across the racquet face - that is going to determine control/shot consistency. In my experience, going to hybrid with Big Spin (or any other triangle-shape) mains and a slick, round cross string, provides a lot more control without sacrificing spin potential. And, FWIW, it seems like I produced much sharper, more accurate/predictable volleys with a square cross string like 4G and Wasabi.

it's not Heavy like Linx tour , right ? Linx tour was so heavy, i had to lift weights to play with that string

IMO, 49/44 is too low in a Wilson Clash. Try 56/51 and control will be better. Do you hit with lots of spin or rather flat? If flat, use a differential of 3 lbs. instead of 5. 5-6 lbs. is good for spin, because it creates a higher launch angle, but for flat strokes it can be quite launchy.

Interesting... I've always heard that the Clash works best at low tensions. I hit with a lot of topspin. My launch angle was very high with the Clash 100. I just moved to the Clash 98 and it's much lower. I used to have arm problems which is why I picked up the Clash and play at "lower" tensions

Been lurking this thread too long. Big sale got me. Gonna try BS/GW combo
What are you playing with? This is my 2nd favorite combo at the moment and the one I'm using most often since I have a roll of BS. Hyper G Soft/GW is currently my favorite combo

I've been using black night/gw. Also experimented with some golden set multi/gw. I like me some soft set ups

Big Spin broke after 2.5h but it was great while it lasted. Started to become more lively towards the end but still a good combo of touch, pocketing and spin. Even the people i was hitting with noticed the extra weight, depth and spin on the ball. I have another set I’m going to try at a higher tension but given the lack of durability, I would gravitate more towards Tour Hex. I would say definitely the best spin-focused string out there. A lot better feel than square-shaped ones and importantly, not a crazy launch angle.
Yea, I felt the same way. Full bed of Big Spin seemed to go mushy more quickly than Tour Hex.
I noticed the increased spin of Big Spin versus Tour Hex. Given the great control and tension maintenance of the latter however, I would place TH ahead of BS.

IMO Tour Hex is great if you need control. I couldn’t generate much power with it. BS worked better for me.
I just tried hyper g soft and I’m really liking it on my Clash 100. The spin has remained consistent at 8+ hours. I felt BS changing sooner. That said, I strung HGS 2 lbs higher so I’ll try that with BS next.
How would you compare Tour Hex with Hyper G ? The latter is on my demo list.

I bought a reel of Big Spin to try it out. They were pleasant enough to offer me a discount code that covered the shipping, pretty much. What I didn't quite enjoyed was the fact that:

- I bought on day X with a regular price.
- On day X + 1, the advertisement on the website would be that all european operations would be closed, so they were doing 2 for the price of 1 as clearance - 2 for the price of 1 was still more expensive than what I paid for a single reel even without discount.
- On day X + 2, the clearance (and shutdown of the operations) was gone.

So I don't know what's going on with the company itself, but I just hope the strings are good enough. If they are good enough to make me ditch Hyper-G, I don't know. Let's see.
I had a weird experience also. I wanted to post it here in the Mayami thread and see what you all thought.

After loving Tour Hex for a month, I made the plunge and bought a reel - yes, a WHOLE REEL - directly from the company website. About three days later the box came, except that there was no string in it! Instead was a strange light-up glass flower collectable. I was frustrated and confused as hell. I contacted the owner of Mayami (Yaroslav Milchenko) via email, and he replied that it was probably the fault of the post office, check with them, and get back with him about it if I did not get anywhere.

I knew what was coming next. I phoned the post office and of course they said that it was the fault of the Mayami warehouse in New Jersey, and that the post office just delivers packages, and that the mistake happened loading the package before it was sent to the post office for delivery. I then sent another email to Milchenko with the post office's reply and I have never heard back from him. I am currently disputing the charge with my bank, and hope to get my money back. Most likely I just inadvertently spent a hundred bucks on a cheap glass light-up flower (which my wife thinks is pretty and is still sitting on the TV cabinet)!

Long story short, I will never buy directly from the company again. I got a few more sets of TH on E-bay and that will probably be it for Mayami strings for for me. I have just put Volkl Cyclone 16 into my sticks and love the great ball pocketing and connected feel that it gives! Tour Hex, being a 17L, just feels too "stringy" and unstable to me, especially later when it starts to lose tension. Unfortunately TH is still not available in a thicker gauge. Another guy above in this thread said that TH has a "dead" feel to it, and at first I disagreed, but after playing with a more lively string like Cyclone, I can tell the difference in the increased feedback. I guess I'm one of those guys who needs some feel and connectivity to my ball striking. Some guys don't care about it all. I suppose it's personal preference.

There may be some turmoil in the company based on what you said here, armandogomes, but I hope that Mayami makes it. They said that they were behind in their shipments earlier in the year. It would be a shame if a good family business like that would have to fold.

i have purchased multiple times now from mayami and didn't have any issues. Quick question, did you purchase from mayamistring.com or mayami.de ?

You seemed to love tour hex to later say you hate it :) so? is your tour hex experience connected with shipping issues? :)
also - you could provide some pics :) glass flower and box with mayami sticker + happy wife :)

if that really happened i feel sorry for you. I am pretty proud customer as well. Difficult situation for both parties I guess. how string factory can send something not string related? :p popcorn is ready

Hey Glapagos! I was hoping that you would chip in. I purchased the reel of TH from mayamistrings.com.

My cooling enthusiasm for Tour Hex is not connected with shipping problems. I know that my about face with TH sounds silly, but let me see if I can relate my story. I'm just now deciphering it myself. So, I believe that TH was the first shaped poly that I have ever used, the other ones were round to my knowledge (Kirschbaum touch turbo, Luxilon Ace and 4G, Signum PPP). I guess I was initially thrilled with the movement and spin that TH gave me, but the "stringy" feel of the 17L bothered me right from the beginning. I guess I just got tired of how the 17L gauge TH felt and I kept waiting for the larger gauge to get introduced, but it never happened.

I also had to take a month off from playing, since my plantar fasciitis returned after ten years. Like an idiot, I was hoping that I would not have to wear inserts in my shoes, but it caused the fasciitis to return. In the meantime, of course I was hearing about other great strings like Cyclone, Confidential, Hyper G, etc., so I figured while I was resting my foot that I would order some different strings and have them ready once I could resume playing. So far I really appreciate the thicker 16 gauge of Cyclone and its benefits.

I'm glad that you have had good experiences with Mayami shipping, and doubtless, my experience is an anomaly. I think I just need a thicker gauge, and if Mayami ever gets around to a thicker TH, I will likely try it.

I'll post pictures here of the flower when I get a chance. It's a pretty flower, but a far cry from what I ordered ...

BTW, did you change your profile picture?

That does seem quite strange and sorry to hear the old injury has flared back up.

I just ordered two reels this morning and got a notification that they were shipped about ten minutes or so ago. Hopefully, the colors of the flowers will match my racquets

In all seriousness, I have been using Mayami strings since November 2019 and haven't had a problem with any of my orders. Do you still have the packaging? Was the string shipped from New Jersey or from the Ukraine? Honestly, it kind of sounds like a case of someone at the US warehouse shipping a personal item and put the wrong label on the wrong box. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved soon.

My problem with TH is the lack of power and average spin. It's a great control string. I'm really enjoying Hyper-G soft 16L. Great spin, more power than TH and tension maintenance has been great. I cut out my strings around the 10 Hr mark just to be safe since I've had arm issues in the past
