"I'm sure Novak wants 45 Slams, play 'til 55. But we're here to try to keep up his level and to beat him," Medvedev said. "We're here to not let him win the US Open.
"But we all know that Novak, he's a very strong player, one of the best in the history. That's why any tournament he's in, he's a big contender, a big favorite."
"Was up a set and a break against Sascha (Zverev). Sascha managed to bring on amazing level to beat him. That's what you have to do against him," Medvedev said. "Stefanos was in the final of Roland Garros, two sets up. I was in the final in Australia, not two sets up but still in the final.
"We're going to try to get him. Of course, this competition to be the first one of these young guys to win a Slam, yeah, everybody wants to do it, but there's going to be only one who makes it."
"Since I'm here, I want to say I'm going to try my best to keep it at 20 for all of them," Medvedev said.
"The Big Three are amazing. For two weeks non-stop for all of the sets they would not have this level drop, and they would always be on top of their opponent.
"I feel like I progressed a lot in this aspect. That's what I need to try to do here."
"It's amazing he managed to achieve it when Roger and Rafa were there before him," Medvedev said. "Even me as a kid, every fan in the world thought, 'OK, Novak, great player, maybe win few Slams but never going to be the same level as Roger and Rafa because, well, they're amazing.
"He was able to almost break all the records in tennis. I think he's going to break few of them in next years to come.
"What these three did is something exceptional in sport, which maybe will not be there in tennis for 100 more years. Or maybe it's going to be the same in 10 years after them."

I LOVE this! That he gives the Big 3 all the credit they deserve and touts them as the best of all time, yet says the younger guys are gonna STOP ‘em! YEAH!!

I was about to say “good attitude to have” but then I remembered that “all the pressure is on Djokovic” talk before the AO final. Yeah...
That was the biggest disappointment in years from anyone. He won 20 HC matches in a row the WTF and went off 50/50 in odds against Djokovic at the AO so like the bookies most people thought it be super close and then he was trashed

Is he going to pretend the pressure's all on Novak again, only for him to be the one that wilts immediately on the big stage?

Because I'm not really in the mood to go through that again.

He's got talk the talk part down, we'll see about walking. Though honestly, whether he delivers on the promise or not, I like the attitude. finally someone who's not afraid to say he wants to win big and he's ready to work for it, not afraid to put a bit more pressure on himself. Everyone on the tour trying to be understated and humble was getting meh.

Next Gen can say what they want and beat Djokovic in BO3 but nobody will take them serious until they either beat Djokovic in a slam or at least a grindfest 5 setter where they fight.
Tsitsipas might of only lost 3-2 in RG when Djokovic broke in the 3rd it was obvious who would win plus he then collapsed

AO 2021 - Djokovic v. Medvedev, sets won:3 - 0
RG 2021 - Djokovic v. Tsitsipas, sets won: 3 - 2
W 2021 - Djokovic v. Berrettini, sets won: 3 - 1

They are getting closer, that's all I can say.

See on paper it looks that way but Tsitsipas literally rolled over from 2-0 up and Berrettini won the first set after some choke from Djokovic.

If Tsitsipas had of lost 3-2 while fighting it be different but he was 2-0 up then 45 mins later it was 2-1 and he was 1-5 down in the 4th.

Medvedev, Tsisipas and Co are commendable, they all want to beat Djokovic. Unlike Roddick, Hewitt and Co of the early 00's, who in their hearts knew they couldn't beat Federer.

And they will beat Djokovic, but not until he goes past 20 by several.

He basically said that even if Djokovic breaks all the records he won't be as amazing as Roger or Rafa. Read between the lines.

No one has ever had goatness thrust upon them. They all worked hard for it.

This is true, but hard work does not itself mean greatness. So, yes, there are certainly other factors that result in greatness. And in that sense it isn't up to the player.

he said nobody thought he would reach and surpass Fedal in slams....and that it is amazing that he did when they both had huge lead on him.

Tstispas, Medvedev and Zverev repeat the same stuff before every slams and keep disappointing slam after slam after slam. When 1 of them wins his 1st slam I will start taking this kind of statements seriously.

He is right. It's their job and purpose to do so. It's another thing that they have not been successful because the domination by the Big 3 is so big that it did not happen. All they can do it try to win.

He should talk less. And show what he is capable of on court. His last Slam final was not very encouraging tbh. Sisipas at least gave tough fight. He simply folded like a cheap tent in AO final.

There's one thing in the tennis world you should not do, and that is firing up novak.

Medvedev can retire as far as I'm concerned. Don't like his game and don't like his personality.
Zverev is easily the most appealing player and person on tour, after Nadal of course.
A year ago I was sure Sinner would be my 2nd favorite player, but Zverev has easily cemented that spot.

No no no, you got it all wrong. The three young padawans have already been sit down by the alpha. They have their tail between their legs and will unconsciously submit once the boss shows his teeth. A new, cocky young male full of testosterone is starting to beat his chess and will soon challenge the king's authority in order to claim his spot. He is not well known here, but Humbert Hokrcucz will surprise the current alpha with relentless aggression until, exhausted, Djoko has to simulate an inury to avoid profound shame in an attempt to retain a certain social rank in the pack. As you can see here, the powerful male hormones are at their peak levels in our young specimen, which explains his current killer instinct and complete lack of fear.

I really don't see what there is to criticize in his answer.

And maybe, just maybe, Novak played a great final earlier this year at the AO.

Yeah Dimitrov, Nishikori, Raonic co. were also amazing

So were Thiem, Kyrgios, Goffin, Pouille etc.

So were Monfils, Berdych, Tsonga etc.

Roddick, Hewitt won slams and got to #1 but yeah all the next gen jokers are better because they "want" to beat the big three when they are 35 and 40 years old.

Making comments does not mean squat until you show some results. Shut the front door with this nonsense!

Love these young guys talking sh*t before every slam this year and then sh*tting on the court when they play against Djokovic.

Poetic in a way.

In what universe, does this constitute "talking sh*t"?
And if he showed even more deference, he'd be killed here for rolling over.
There is nothing remotely wrong with what he said....people really need to develop reading comprehension and/or some sense of having to answer similar questions all the time.

Just simply do not say anything at all until you have actually beat the guy at a GS. Say you are here to win and blah blah....don't even mention keeping the big 3 at 20 slams when you have done f*ck all so far to stop them.

Yes, responding to a question - after praising all of The Big 3 - is so incendiary and cocky.
