Men's Wimbledon Seeds

So Fed's a lock for number 1 obviously, but what about the rest of the top 5-10? I think Roddick may retain his #2 seed but where would Nadal, Nalbandian, Ljuby and friends fit on the ladder?

I would not be at all suprised to see Ivan with the 2 seed and Andy down to 3 or 4. David and Rafael seeded in the top five, but I doubt we would see Roger and Rafael in the same half of the draw, nor would we see Roger and Andy in the same half.

ummm it's not decided... it's computed, right ?
i'm not sure about it but i think it's a mix between the usual rankings and the grass court results of the past 2 years...
(anybody has the "magical formula" that they use ?)
i like ivan... but according to his grass court record, it would be surprising to see him n°2... roddick, maybe ?

Nope.Roger is number 1, its not like Nadal is way ahead in terms of play on clay while on grass he is way behind, meaning Nadal. If Roger was a bad clay courter, i agree with u but he is not.

This is a guessing game at best. Everyone knows Roger is going to win his fourth consecutive Wimby title. The only question is who is going to be runner-up.

Wimbledon creates their own formula, they can just make another slight modification to get the seeds where they want them. Since only the 1 and 2 seeds are consistently placed it makes it much easier for them. Look to see another french open type draw. All the proven winners on one side, guys who have great story's and potential in the other.

The All England Club then applies a formula to re-order the 32 players who earn a seed. The formula is:

· Take INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking points at Monday, June 13, 2005
· Add 100% of points earned for all grass court tournaments in the previous 12 months
· Add 75% of points earned at a player’s best grass court event in the 12 months before that.
· Add 4 eggs.

Why would Ljubicic get moved up? He's done nothing on grass, if anything he would go down in ranking for his poor results..

Agree. Dick will be the second seed. David possibly third as I know he's had good grass results in th past. I can't recall any good results on grass from Lubo. After that is too hard to tell but I bet Hewitt will be moved up considerably.

Unless Nadal loses at the French there is no way he'll be seeded lower than 2nd. He already has over 4600 points and there's no way Roddick can get over 2000 points from his Wimbledon final and Stella Artois to get the 2 seed. Nalby made it to the quarters at Wimby but that's still not enough to pass Nadal. Top 5 will probably be
1. Federer
2. Nadal
3. Roddick
4. Nalbandian
5. Probably Ljubicic since no one close to him can get enough points from their grass results to pass him.
6. Hewitt??

Based on result right now, it would be Federer, Nadal, Roddick, Nalbandian, Ljubicic, then pretty much follow the ranking unless someone does really well at the grass warm-up events.

Did you figure these using the formula Wimby uses?

Yes but after 5 it gets trickier since players ranked in the 20s now can sneak into the top 10 seeds at Wimby like Grosjean last year (going from 26 to 9).
Roddick gets 750 points added thanks to the formula + another 70 from Stella Artois (which he needs to win again to keep all 70 points) and then around 550 added on for the "75% of best grass result from last year". Roddick is in the 2500s in points, he gets close to 1370 points added to his ranking but unless Nadal loses at the French he still won't pass him.

Okay, but I still think The AELTC will find some way to seed Dick second, if only because Rafa's grass results are non existance. Guess we'll just all have to see how it eventually shakes out.

He wont, if he is the #2 seed nadal will be on his side as the 3 or 4. If andy is the 3 seed they will put him in the nadal (#2) side. Also look for blake to be in the same side of the draw as roddick and nadal. Its happened the same way the past 4 years.

One thing i found amusing was the 2003 to 2004 draw. The difference was they moved ancic (a semi finalist on the roddick side) to the federer side. So not only did we have former champions in the top, we also had 3 of last years semi finalist. While the bottom was left wide open.

1 vs 3 or 4, 2 vs 3 or 4 are random. It happened the past 4 years doesn't mean it is going to happen this year.

The #3 and #4 seeds are placed randomly on either side of the draw. And just because it has happened that way before doesn't mean it will always be that way. It can be 1 & 4 or 1 & 3 or 2 & 3 or 2 & 4 with the rest of the seeds place randomly by a computer, too.

Marketable players. The bottom line is making money from the tournaments stand point, getting your money players as far as possible. You think espn and other major networks are paying millions of dollars to see two nobodys playing? They will not renew their future contracts with the atp and everyone loses money.

Look at last years us open draw, its the perfect example.

Nadal has to be #2. His grasscourt skills don't matter, the fact is he's miles ahead of the #3 player in points.

Nadal will be seeded #2. He probably shouldn't be, but I don't think Winbledon would have the balls to bump him, especially since no one else has stepped up lately. I know it's supposed to be random, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Blake in the same part of the draw as Nadal.

I didn't used to believe these things were ever fixed, but now... let's just say that I think Dallas is a better team than Miami, but I would be stupid to bet against a team that has media darlings like Shaq, Wade, Payton, Riley, and Mourning. I lost my faith in fairness after watching my Seahawks get absolutely jobbed by the officials all game long in the Superbowl. Then the very next month, I saw my Huskies get screwed even worse in the NCAA tourney.

Chad is now one dollar richer. These draws are a joke. Once again we have an easy half, and a hard half.

Any ideas why wimbledon elected todo the 2 vs 3, 1 vs 4 this year? Lol

did you go see the LAke house and became obsessed?.. and now you think you're in 2005???... check your mailbox and I'll send you a letter with the new seeds.... by the way.... Federer will win Wimby for the third time, the US open, The AO, and Nalbandian will win the Masters cup. sorry, in the next 12 months your boy Roddick will not win anything except for some irrelevant little tourney at the end of 2005. ...... and yes, Bush still has those poor kids in Iraq, let me know if you want more news from the future.
Yours,
