Azarenka should be fined for this, there needs to be a rule change. She was having a panic attack on court because her opponent was finally playing well and it was over 100 degrees, there was no "rib injury" or whatever BS she came up with. I feel sure that Sloane would have won had the match continued, Azarenka was wilting in the heat.

Should there be a rule change? Yes

Should she be fined for stretching a rule within its limits? No

Sloan choked the whole match. A few highlight reel fh winners does not make you win the match.

Would be even funnier if Dr. Djoker put on his white coat and treated himself when he next takes an MTO just before an opponent's serve (like he did just before Murray was about to serve for the title in last year's USO final)! :)
murray, murray... the same murray who often plays possum like at RG last year ? :)

Serena did it last night against Sloane. Nadal does it, Screecherenka does it too.
I see that they're trying to ice the opponent.
It absolutely needs to be regulated more closely, it's unfair and unsportsmanlike.

I don't agree with this. It was obvious that Serena tweaked something in her back. Even after the MTO, her serve speed went from the 120's to the 80's. She was clearly not in good form.

I'm confused. Was it her back or her ankle? During the match they said it was her back but then there's this photo circulating of her swollen ankle...

Watching the match I did actually think she injured herself because she was winning so why would she fake an injury. But now this photo makes me wonder what's going on.

The ankle injury first occurred earlier in the tournament. In the match against SS, she tweaked her back.

so....she was playing Sloane Stephens with an ankle like this? I watched the match. Her ankles were taped but they certainly weren't swollen to this magnitude. When did this swelling happen? After the first match where she injured it, or after the Stephens match?

I don't know when that picture was taken. She may have aggravated the ankle, but the ankle initially was injured in her 1st or 2nd round match.

This is the most bizarre pic, an ankle can't swell like this, must be the angle of the pic, it seriously looks like an NFL lineman's ankle, then again, we are talking about Serena.

If you've ever had a panic attack you wouldn't ridicule it so easily. I have had several of them and believe me, they are no laughing matter.

During a tennis match?

So, if you're nervous, you just get to calla medical timeout? HOw terribly convenient for you.

But, I have a better idea. If you are subject to being nervous or having panic attacks, try something else: Golf, knitting, sewing, gardening. Quite easy to take timeouts for those activities.

But tennis is a sport. A mental and physical challenge. Not up for both, at the same time, playing under pressure, with millions of dollars riding on a single match? (and already amazing enough wealth to support a small country!) Then my heart bleeds for such a miserable excuse for a human being, and make no mistake, that's exactly what Victoria Azarenka is.
