multi mains/poly crosses?

alright so everyone is familiar with the regular hybrid, poly mains syn gut crosses.
Well i ahear a little talk of multi/sgut/ngut mains and poly crosses.. what does this give you? more feel, more power?

also is the durability of mains-multi crosses-poly gonna break ALOT faster than a full multi?

it will have better feel than m:poly x:multi. less durability and probably more power. to me it feels like a multi job (or gut) but with stiffer feel and with more control and durability.

I just tried the prince synth gut multi main w/ poly cross.
I liked it, but after a couple hours of hitting, the poly had sawed
through over 60% of the multi and it was ready to break.

IMO Putting poly in the crosses doesn't make sense, unless you're got a all poly job, ans want no power.

The crosses are shorter than the mains and deflect just as much as the mains. The poly will 1. take all the personality away from whatever is in the mains, and 2. not last long, because of it's short lived resiliency.

Just My Opinion . . . Bud

Well others may not have had good experiences with these setups but I for one am a fan of this setup. I use either VS. gut 17 or NRG2 17 for mains with PHT 17 or Pro Red Code 17 crosses. I really like both the feel and spin of this set up and the durability is good in my book also. I use an 18x20 pattern frame so I don't break strings hardly ever.

After about 6 months of playing exclusively with poly mains/gut crosses (sig), I switched today and put gut in the mains. Wow! I'll have to see if this is a honeymoon experience before I make a commitment, but the feel was superb. Great gut experience, especially at the net and serves, and my balls were dropping in, I believe thanks to the poly.

I've got about 6 sets of NXT and NRG2 lying around and I've been curious about doing your setup. I'll give it a try some time soon. How much play time do you get from a set?

I'm sure I could probably go a couple of months or close to it before it would break but I am a big fan of a fresh string job so I restring at least 1 frame fresh for each match. Before a tourny I would restring 3 frames. 2 the same tension and 1 slightly higher. Then I might use them for some practice sessions etc. before cutting the string out and starting fresh. It is a bit on the expensive side to do but I just like the way it feels better.

I usually play with poly mains and SG crosses, but I too decided to try the opposite or in actually my stringer made me do it. He switched up my order by accident and strung Wilson super spin SG in my mains and PHT in my crosses of my pure storm. I have to admit I really liked it and kept it in for quite awhile.

I also strung up my APDC this fall with Titan syn gut mains and Big Ace crosses and liked that as well. Spin was not quite as good but comfort was solid and control was effortless as well. Also good touch at the net. In the end, I found I enjoy a little stiffter stringbed and went back to poly mains, but it's worth trying...you may love it.
