Yes that's right.

I'll start off, a jazz fusion classic from 1970, Freddie Hubbard's 'Red Clay' (I used to play bass on this tune in a jazz group I was in years ago, it's a 'standard').

Legend
Not sure if this applies, but this song ('The Tennis Song') is from the musical City of Angels:

STONE:
You seem at home on the court

ALAURA:
Let's say that i've played around

STONE:
Well you don't look like the sort

ALAURA:
My hidden talents abound
A competitor hasn't been found to defeat me

STONE:
I'll bet you're a real good sport

ALAURA:
Shall we say the ball is in your court

STONE:
I'll bet you like to play rough

ALAURA:
I like to work up a sweat

STONE:
And you just can't get enough

ALAURA:
I'm good for more than one set
But i promise i'll show no regret
If you beat me

STONE:
My backhand is clearly my forte

BOTH:
Shall we say the ball is in your court

ALAURA:
No one ever plays with me

STONE:
I thought your next of kin did

ALAURA:
My husband never plays with me
He's too easily winded.

STONE:
You leave me breathless too

ALAURA:
Wait till our match is through

STONE:
I may lack form and finesse
But i warm up in a jiff

ALAURA:
It's not exciting unless
The competition is stiff

STONE:
I think i understand your racket
I'm not in your league

ALAURA:
But you can hack it

STONE:
This game commences with love

ALAURA:
Well i think love is a bore

STONE:
Let's give the tempo a shove

ALAURA:
And raise the stakes a bit more

BOTH:
One thing i'm positive of
It's time for someone to score

STONE:
Tell me how you like to play

ALAURA:
On grass or clay
And ev'ry day

STONE:
They're both o.k.

ALAURA:
But time is running short
Darling, let's don't dilly dally

STONE:
Ready for a rousing rally

BOTH:
Shall we say the ball is in your court

ALAURA:
Shall we say the ball is in your court

This is in Spanish, sorry guys... but it's worth because Spanish-speaking posters will laugh their @sses off. It's a crappy 60's song by a forgotten singer from Spain (I don't even know the guy's face) and there was a radio show where they used to mock this song almost every single day.

It's so desperately ridiculous that you've gotta love it.

I'll translate the lyrics to English (it even mentions Santana) in which they sound even more ******** if that's even possible (is Spanish the lyrics are absolutely moronic already).

LOCO POR EL TENIS (CRAZY ABOUT TENNIS)

I'm crazy about tennis,
I love this game it's so exciting,
I'm crazy about tennis,
I love its electrifying pace.
I'm crazy about tennis
and I want to practice it,
to see if tomorrow
I could become a Santana
and have success.

The game of tennis
it's about to start,
eveyone get ready,
because we're going to dance.

First the drive,
with flexible knees,
racquet in position,
turn, look, hit and pang!
How nice is the tennis.

And now the backhand,
with flexible knees,
the racquet behind,
turn, look, hit and pang!
How nice is the tennis.

And now the serve,
with flexible knees,
the ball it's up,
turn, look, hit and pang!
How nice is the tennis.

(repeat the ******** chorus)

How nice is the tennis,
how nice is the tennis,
everyone let's go to the tennis.

Sheet, this stuff makes my day.

"The Pusher" by Steppenwolf.

(My version)

You know he strokes a lot of junk,
O, Lord, he'll slice that ball.
His opponents all hate him,
Like playin' against a wall.
Ya know I've seen a lot of players walkin' 'round
With breadsticks in their eyes,
But the Pusher don't care,
Ah, he'll just grin and make you cry.

God damn, The Pusher.
God damn, I say The Pusher.
I said God damn… God damn the Pusher man.

You know the dinker, the dinker is a man,
Who'll lob you to death whenever he can.
But the Pusher is a monster,
Good God, he's not a normal man.
He'll get to every shot by running it down,
And then smile at you like a clown.
He'll ruin your body and your mind,
Tho he has no game of any kind.

God damn, The Pusher.
God damn, I say The Pusher.
I said God damn… God damn the Pusher man.

Well, if I were the president of this land,
You know I'd declare war on the Pusher man.
I'd drop him if he stands, and I'd keep him on the run,
Yes, I'd beat him every time, it would be so much fun.

God damn, The Pusher.
God damn, I say The Pusher.
I said God damn… God damn the pusher man.

Dilletante. great spanish song, and what's with the "flexible knees". Reminds me of Rafa !

Don't leave me now - Pink Floyd (Roger singing to his first serve against Delpo at the US open, and to his backhand at the WO 2008).

Topaz, was that not the source of the best song of all time?

I think you are thinking of the movie City of Angels. There is the movie and a completely separate musical by the same title but they are not related at all. They both have awesome music though! I have the soundtrack for the movie and the original Broadway recording of the musical, plus I performed in a production of it.

Yeah, I can relate
(and speaking of Vox Continentals...and "shake it!" 60's Go-Go dancers lol):

Ah, thanks for the memories. FYI, Paul and his Raiders got their first exposure on a noon-time TV show called Where the Action Is, hosted by the ever-present Dick Clark. We used to hurry back to the frat house from class to catch their latest - until we figured out it was easier to skip the whole class part. LOL
