Nadal at WB has always been epic

He definitely knows how to make the early rounds epic. Vamos!

(But for real, he's great fun to watch on the surface, in part because he does get into epic matches against journeymen in the first week. Always some tasty drama with Nadal on grass.)

Rafa is not super proactive and doesn't have an oppressive serve, so his opponents are generally allowed to do their thing. This is one of the things that makes his matches fun to watch.

The former is particularly true on quick/low bouncing surfaces, although of course he's not as successful there.

Imagine had it been 80's-90's grass, he would never have even made the second week. Djokovic with his unbelievable ROS would have won Wimbledon even on fast grass. Nadal? Doubtful.
Well it’s not 90s grass lol and neither was it when Fed won his titles. What we think they would have done bc of how pretty their game looks is subjective.

With old Rackets not even Fed will have his chances on 80s and 90s grass let alone Djokovic and old players will struggle on modern grass and baseline play.

If someone had told me in 2011 that he'd never reach another final I would have called then crazy.
True.
Likewise if someone had told me at the end of 2011 that Rafa would have the most US titles in the 10's I would have called them crazy.
If they had repeated it by the end of 2015 and/or 16, I would have called them bad **** crazy

Other than his rough period from 2012-17 (although he played pretty well v. Muller), he has been fun to watch at Wimby.
Rafa did make 5 finals over 6 years, skipping 2009, and three straight semis (2018, a de facto final) the last 3 times he's played.
His record would possibly/probably be even stronger if WC didn't come right after a grueling clay season.

He is one of the better grass players. Honestly I like when he plays on grass as much as I like Nole playing on grass. I didn't watch 2022 Wimbledon but in 2019 he was playing on high level here.

Interesting as i dont like nadal on grass as for me his game style is the opposite of what should be played on grass, i.e early shots flat.
