Nadal never ceases to amaze me.

On his first real tournament back to do so well after a foot issue which some medical professionals described as career threatening is pretty incredible.

When I first started to watch tennis in the year 2000, a Tennis player doing so well in their mid 30s after an injury layoff would have been laughed at since the days of Martina Navratilova and Jimmy Connors, you have to put age in tennis in context with years gone by. People get shirty when talking about age in tennis for some reason but maybe it's medical advances and better diets but after 21 years of being a road runner with a will to win to see Nadal still out there is great. Federer did the same in 2017 and that was an amazing comeback from injury.

With the Djokovic vs Medical Intervention vs Australia saga raging on Nadal has been in the shadows but I predict he will be a threat when the Australian Open comes around. It's such a shame that negativity and politics cloud the best sport there is because it takes the light off the talent who are currently performing.

I don't think I've posted spoilers.

Rafa's congenital left foot issue has been career threatening since 2005, when it started to cause him pain. Doctors told him then that he might never be able to play tennis again. Pain levels change and last summer, the pain became severe. In September, he underwent yet another treatment on the left foot in Barcelona, after which he was on crutches. Later, he said he underwent a "little aggressive" [translated from Spanish by journalists] treatment.
