Nadal really needs to change his forehand

I made another thread about this a few months ago. But after the WTF I'm sure that Nadal needs to change his forehand to what it was in 2010. It looks like he wants to make his forehand more fluent, at least, that's what I see when I look at his backswing. His forehand now is less accurate, he makes more mistakes, more short balls. Just look at the Tsonga-Nadal match. I'm sure that when he uses the kind of backswing he did in 2010, 2012 will be a nice year for him.

2011 wasn't the best year for Rafa. He's still my idol, he will always be. We'll see what he's able to do in 2012

this link isnt working!
as for the OP, please explain to me exactly the difference that you see in his forehand take back?

The backswing is a little bit smaller and he stops for brief moment at the bottom of the backswing in the 2010 forehand. The 2011 forehand has a larger backswing and is more fluent.

He certainly looks like he's hitting now while leaning back rather than going forward to the ball, but this may be a movement issue as well.

if that is the case, it certainly is less than apparent in these two videos.

I read that all he needed to do was get his 2010 serve back -- that;s all. Haven't you guys read each and every thread on this forum before starting this one.

Lol, I don't see any difference in those forehands.

there may be a little bit more backswing but the difference is very very little.

in all honesty, i hate it when ****s sit here and try to analyze nadal, or any other pro's game. if you're such a tennis genius shouldn't you be coaching future GS winners instead of sitting on a couch in your moms basement?

I'm not trying to analyze Nadal, I'm just saying that it is something I notice during when I see match highlights of him. I just turned 18, I've always tried to copy his style a bit, because he is my idol, so that's why I found it just weird that it looks like his forehand is a bit off, because I paid so much attention to it. It's not that I'm being a **** or whatever you want to name it. But please, of course I want this to be a thread with honest opinions, not one with such sarcasm or disrespect, whatever you want to call it, like your last sentence...

After reading your opinions en seeing the videos again, I have to say that the difference are little. You can not expect someone to hit the same motion every year. Maybe I was too focused on his motion. Maybe it's just confidence that hits his game.

Btw, I'm not a *******. Nadal is my idol, but I have also huge respect for Federer, Djokovic and more players on the tour. When Nadal loses a match, I'm not the guy who going to say: he's done. I said that Nadal has to change his forehand because I noticed that it looked less effective, but I have to come back on that, it's just confidence. He still has one of the greatest forehands ever, so there's no reason for pointing to his forehand. I was overreacting to much with the title and the first post. Sorry for that

He needs to play aggressively like he did on clay in 2007-2008, and like he did in the 3rd set of the US Open.

He needs a damned gluegun to keep him at the baseline. That'll force him to learn how to hit from there instead of from the spectator's seats.

I need to introduce my favorite player to Martha Stewart.:)

I agree with that:) From what I saw of the WTF is that he gives too much short balls and too much options for the opponents to attack.

He needs to give a golden handshake to One Trick Toni, give him a decent pension, a villa on a beach someplace far away and hire someone professional.

Sure, why would anyone analyze a pro's game in a tennis forum?.

while nadal does need to change more than just his serve, those videos show the difference in the serve motion nadal used last year circa USO and the serve he used this year. if he could go back to that serve, or even try to make his current serve more effective, he would probably have much less trouble holding his own service games than he has had as of late. of course that is easier said than done.

however, i think the bigger issue is confidence and aggression. he seems so passive this year, which is likely due to a lack of confidence. why he has no confidence i do not know, but he needs to get it back if he wants to stand a chance against federer and djokovic next year.

Can't tell much of a difference. Nadal is hitting bigger in the 2011 video. Of course, that is probably due to the random and limited selection of points in these videos.

Nadal's game definitely better last year though.... or then again maybe humans evolved all over again in a matter of months and Djokovic is outcompeting Nadal now.

So we've established that in 2011, Rafael Nadal cannot hit a serve, cannot hit a forehand past the service line, cannot hit a backhand, cannot hit a return and is afraid of coming to the net. We know Nadal is the worst, least talented person to ever pick up a racquet, but is there anything he does that is at least adequate? Mental strength I suppose. It's his mental strength that won 10 slams, and dozens of other titles. He just demonstrates all you need to succeed is mental toughness. If we were mentally tougher, we could all be #1 too. But tennis ability? He has none of that.

Pretty much. Namelessone, Clarky, and TennisFan3 agree with this statement.
