Nadal said it's unlikely he will win 3 Slams when he comes back.

“I missed four and a half years of Grand Slams due to injury, this is the reality. But that’s also sport. That’s not why I’m better than Djokovic, because I played less,” analysed the former world No 1.

“He had a physique and a way of playing that allowed him to compete more than me. I have no choice but to recognise this, I did what I could. Sometimes I come back and win three Grand Slams, but it’s unlikely.

The OP article is about Rafa's vacation, but Rafa bashers haven't noticed it. o_O

It's absolutely true that Djokovic is just much luckier with his health. And it is absolutely pathetic that he always acts as if he is injured, only to start playing better right after it. Nadal on the other hand had real injuries.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with pigeon being 2-15 against Djo on majority of the tour :-D

Djokovic didn't miss many slams due to injuries but it took him 4 years since his breakthrough to fix his allergy/fitness problem. He had just 2 slams at age of 24. Otoh Nadal had got 7 at same age. So it's not like only Nadal had health problems. Without his early struggles Djokovic probably would have won 3-4 more slams.

Nadal just speaking facts. What he said is really classy tbh. Basically acknowledging that Djokovic is the best even though there are some factors that would make other people consider Nadal could've been the best.

It's totally a function of how Nadal chose to bulk himself up for additional power.

Why do you think no ATG has ever had Nadal's physique?

All that muscle mass he carries around is brutal on the joints in a sport like tennis
Now - could one have a proper investigation into the bulk-up? Including a detailed analysis of why his serve speed went up miraculously in US Open 2009

The proper investigation revealed that you are trying to cheat readers by generating imaginary stories.

nadal isn't exactly a hulking bodybuilder of a tennis player...i think his bulging left bicep (result of how he jerks up on that forehand obviously) makes him seem more jacked than he really is. it's more about his style of play than his physique that's the issue.

guys like tsonga, groth of course...those are big, bulky dudes. nadal's actually got kind of small shoulders, look at him standing next to fed...he's probably like 2-3 sportcoat sizes smaller.

I’m holding my tongue because I respect The Nadal and dislike fan wars, but these recent “pretence of thoughtfulness” -style quotes are not a good look…ditch ‘em Rafa.

True, Rafa is bulky only in some people's imagination. Here is Rafa pictured in the middle of August:

lol...He literally wasted first 6 years of his career because of his allergies and asthma.
And it's wrong to say he was never injured during Slams... Fedal vultured 6 between W16 and F18 thanks to Djokovic's physical issues.
Also wrong to say it's "luck". Djokovic's game is simply more adapted. Less demanding, less injury prone. The way he's planned his seasons calendars allowed him to stay healthy. Has nothing to do with luck.
Cancellation of W20, and all the vaccine crap... now THAT'S bad luck...

Djokovic game is far less physical than Nadal. It is more physical than Federer. But Djokovic has better health than Federer as well. Strong body.

Nadal fans and Nadal himself exagerrates his physical woes too to be clear, the real unluckiest player is Del Potro, not Nadal (let alone Djokovic, WTF, LMFAO!!!) but yes between Nadal and Djokovic it is no comparision. Nadal by a country mile has been the unluckier one with health. And Federer by more than a country mile has been unluckier than Djokovic with timing.

Nadal got bulkier as the result of '12 AO loss. And the bulkier he got the more susceptible to injuries he became. So it was his career decision.

Maybe if he didn't get bulkier, Djokovic would still bat him around corner to corner.

Gill Gross rips Rafael Nadal for his words about Novak Djokovic

Gill Gross, tennis analyst, speaking on the Monday Match Analysis podcast, linked to the Spaniard's statements granted to Movistar

OCTOBER 5, 2023 03:00by LORENZO CIOTTI
Gill Gross has given a warning to Rafael Nadal, following the Spaniard's words in an interview with Movistar last week. Nadal had addressed various topics, from his recovery to his ambitions for the future. The focus then irremediably shifted to Novak Djokovic, who this season first caught up with him, and then surpassed him in the calculation of Slam titles.

The statement that really aroused controversy, especially among the Serbian's fans, was this: "I am not frustrated for a simple reason. I believe I have done everything possible, within the limits of my possibilities, to make things happen for me went as well as possible.

Novak might be frustrated because he experiences everything more intensely and that's why he's the best."
With these words, Nadal obviously alluded to the Serbian champion, who, according to the Spaniard, achieved everything he won because he is truly obsessed with records.

But then there was no shortage of compliments to the 24-time Slam champion: "I believe that numbers are numbers and statistics are statistics, and in this sense I think that he has better numbers than me and this is indisputable.
I think that as far as titles are concerned, Djokovic is the best in history and there is nothing to discuss about this. I congratulate Novak for everything he is achieving and this does not cause me any kind of frustration.

I said it when I was the one who won the most Slams, I said it when we were tied and I say it now that I'm behind. I will not be the one who seeks, through personal struggle, to want to be what I am not."

Gill Gross's analysis

Gill Gross, tennis analyst, speaking on the Monday Match Analysis podcast, linked to the Spaniard's statements, saying: "The final part should have been omitted because he shouldn't be speaking on behalf of Novak.
It's something that Novak can communicate from only and maybe it's true, maybe not, but it's not up to Rafa to say: this is how Novak would have felt if this had happened, right?”

However, he then added that the comments, even offensive, that were unleashed after his statements were excessive: "I think that the emotions and toxicity that were unleashed when this quote was discussed were completely useless, considering the fact that if what Rafa said about Novak was true, it wouldn't have been a big deal. Honestly, it shouldn't be taken as an insult or a shock."
