New and Craziest Surface Ideas

Blue clay was legitimately awesome.

On a more serious note, custard. The non-Newtonian properties will necessitate constant impact resulting in either seizure-like shuffling or helpless sinking and flailing, both of which would be very, very funny.

^Top notch poasting here, folks.

My pedestrian (and selfish) answer would be a granola/protein bar combo. Stratsworth would love to graze during a match, and the gamesmanship of holding up a finger as if to say 'Wait one, I need to finish chewing' would be a sweet fruit indeed.

Wood would kill off the whole tour except Isner and Karlovic after a few years. But they, along with Raonic, might actually win Slams.

yeah, in this age of space materials, why do we have to be fixated on traditional material ?

Well, maybe we may keep clay since they maintained its integrity/tradition for so long.
But for hard courts, and grass courts, they should stop pretending real concrete or grass and start experiment with new materials !

I once dreamt that I played on an ice court. I beat Pete Sampras. Dream Sampras confirmed overrated. Take that Suresh

My favorite surface to play tennis would probably the crumbled bones of my enemies

Bear traps should be placed 4 feet behind the baseline to encourage getting to net more.

I'd also like to see faster surfaces such as wood gym floors, ice, greased concrete and solid diamond.

I think a super rubbery surface would be really cool to see, like 2-3 inches of a hyper bouncy surface. I think a gravel court would be cool too, bigger than clay particles but still ground down pretty well.

A rubbery surface was used at the AO for years, called plexicushion. It was made of recycled car tires. Something like the rubber used in super balls would be interesting :)

I play tennis on a maple gym floor/basketball court! You want the fastest surface, this has to be it!

That must be fun to play on. I played a tournament once on indoor court that hadn't been resurfaced in like a decade…every first serve was like a Roddick bomb because of the court speed…it was like ace or overhead winner each point…so much fun.

Yeah I realized right after I posted that I should have been more specific about it, a super bouncy ball type surface that could either be made really slick and fast or supper gritty and slow would be really really cool. Although some people in the first rows might get seriously hurt in an Isner match...

They're already in danger in an Isner match! People in the 70th row would be in danger on a superball court.
