New NB Fresh Foam Lav on Raonic at AO?

Catching Raonic/Coria AO round 1 right now, and it appears Milos is rocking a new model of FF Lavs? Yes or no? I have a screenshot but can't figure out how to get it up on here.

Yes that’s the LavV2. I tested it a few months back and am currently testing it again as part of a sole durability test for NB. Think it is supposed to be out around mid year

Nice. I just got my first pair of Lavs a few weeks ago. I don't love the elevated heel, running shoe setup — but they are pretty comfortable and supportive. Are the V2 similar?

Heel is even more elevated IMO. No sock liner anymore. The tongue is semi attached inside the shoe but has these weird super wide wings at the top that wrap way around my ankle and constantly fold over and bunch up. I also find the Fresh Foam X a bit firm for my taste and they lack a bit in forefoot cushion. It’s not super different in performance other than the new tongue style and the higher feeling heel. After I tested a super comfy Fuel Cell shoe last year (that never came out) I had hoped NB would combine Fresh Foam and Fuel Cell in the new Lav but that’s not the case.

Also, there will be more colors of the current Lav before the 2 is released. They’ve been in short supply recently.

I have used the Lavs and like the comfort they provide. I am looking forward to the Lav 2's. @the_faceless_player can you compare the 1st and 2nd version of the Lavs?

It's been awhile since I've worn the 1. The 2 feels like it has a higher heel height due to a thicker stack of Fresh Foam X. Like other shoes (Zoom Zero, etc) this kind of pitches you forward onto your toes but I feel the execution is less balanced in the new one and felt a bit less stable. How you feel about Fresh Foam probably comes down to personal preference. Having been playing mostly in Zoom Zero and GP Turbos as of late, I find FF a bit firm for me taste and I get some leg fatigue after longer sessions in the LavV2. NB had a super comfy Fuel Cell based shoe (wasn't durable at all) last year that was pulled from release. I was hoping NB would use FF in the heel and Fuel Cell in the forefoot of the new Lav. Instead its straight FF X but the forefoot still feels a little thin cushioning wise. The sock liner of the 1 has been replaced by a tongue that is attached inside the shoe but separate at the top. It has wide wings that wrap around your leg and I have trouble getting them to not fold and bunch up. I would have preferred to see the sock liner style carry over.

Overall I don't know that the 2 is massively different than the 1. Have they changed some things? Yes. If you love the 1, are you going to hate the 2? Probably not. If you didn't like the 1, will you love the 2? Probably not. The LavV2 is a supportive, durable shoe with firm cushion that feels pretty fast for its weight. It plays with a firmer ride than the 996v4 and is a more structured shoe overall with the external heel counter and usage of rubber drag guard on the front of the upper

Thanks. That's a very good and comprehensive comparison. Appreciate it.

Doubt it. Looks like they are just trying to make it look like the new colorway of original Lav that is on their website now. That said, the 2 different pairs of V2 I have tested have had colorways that can only be described as " a lot"
Didnt know they had new colors on the site. Ummm these are kind of sick. I would like to snag a pair under 100 bones

I was wondering when they were going to introduce the next version of the LAV. I seem like New Balance is trying to clear out the original version. I can't find a 9.5 in any colors. Looks like the N logo is bigger this year

There is a new color of Lav that just came out. Your size is in stock on the NB site and a couple other competitor sites. I imagine TW will have it soon as well. Sounds like there are probably a couple more colors to come before the 2 is released.

Pitty about the forefoot cushioning in the Lav 2's being thin, maybe there's an opportunity to fix this before NB officially release them. Would be good to know if they will release the new Lav 2's with a proper herringbone clay court sole? The present Lav's do not come in a clay court sole offering which is a deal breaker.

I tried to like the 996V4 so bad since they were comfy, came in a 2E, and looked great. However, the upper had absolutely no lockdown. When hitting shots on the run and planting my foot to change direction my toes and forefoot would actually slide out over the midsole. I didn’t twist an ankle thankfully, but that removed them from contention for me. Have a pair of 2E LAVs coming in today, hoping they’ll fit the same but with lockdown.

Asics needs to start making some more 2E models!
