New Yonex EZone Ai

All their new racquets and specs are up now, looks like there is both a 310gm and 285gm version:

Not sure what the "Ai" stands for exactly. The site suggests the grommet system is new and there's some new flavor of the month graphite advance incorporated

Unlike the EZONE Xi 107 which is Made in Japan, its replacement,
the new EZONE Ai 108, will be Made in China.
Only the EZONE Xi 100, 98 and Ai Lite will be Made in Japan.

I think the main thing the "improved" with this series is the aerodynamic properties of the frame, so it is supposedly easier to swing through the air, like Babolat's AeroPro series.

The head looks very oval to me.
Holy moly, that's a big difference. Look at how square the old one was.

So I believe the "xi" stood for "extra isometric". Curious that Yonex is abandoning the xi--wonder if that's because the oval actually plays better than the square, or if it's because the oval will sell better than the square? Or both, I guess.

The new EZONE Ai series of rackets will be available in November 2013.
So we have to wait another two months.
I am going to get both the Ai 98 and 100. I have delayed my review of the Pacific Bull Gut string for this reason.
Going to test the string in the new Ai series.

Yup saw that in another thread. I am probably going to stick with the 100. Going to demo both before buying, but gut feeling makes me think I will prefer the 100.

Yonex corporate facebook page says Nov 20th for launch....
I get the feeling the new EZONE ai100 will play very similar to the VCore 100, mostly because they both share a more oval hoop, thinner beams and a 16x19 pattern as compared to the EZONE XI 100's 16x18. Not a bad thing, but I like the regular Ezone and the xi version a lot too.
I played 3 sets with the VCore 100 today and it is a great frame but I feel it has less directional control than the xi version (despite the closer string pattern). Maybe the new "ai" version will reign in the power a little better.
I'm not sure I can wait till Nov 20th!! I need a new toy now

Compared to the Ezone Xi they the head shape is actually not differ by a lot. It's just the angle the photo was taken there. However, Yonex has definitely gone more oval like over the years. I saw some of the older Yonex frames and they are very rectangular.
The modern style of taking big cuts on the ball definitely favors the more rounded shape heads, like the babo, wilson blade, head extreme, etc.

Didn't know yonex sold "made in china" frames. How long have they been doing that?

Actually, if the shape is wider, it gives you more real estate when taking a big cut at the ball especially when the racket face is sightly closed. Narrow frames would give you a smaller margin of error.
For quite a while, but only for the budget racquets
For years. Their flagship racquets are "made in japan" while the lower end or lesser models are "made in china."

From what I am being told by ex Yonex rep, that racket Hingis is using is extended racket. so I am really confused cause these new models that is made in Japan doesn't look like they are extra length. All looks like standard length. and Hingis wouldn't be caught dead with a frame made in china.

The microsite on the Yonex page shows that only the 108 inch frame is 27.25", so not much offered in the extended area. I am not sure if I will go with the 100 or the lite version, but I will have one this year to compliment my Wilson 105S
